USC Saturday Buzz: Notre Dame Survives Without Charmin

Notre Dame has risen to No. 2 overall in the On3 recruiting rankings for 2026.

Wait a minute. I thought Chad “Charmin” Bowden was solely responsible for the Irish’s recruiting success. You mean they have managed to survive without his magic?

Marcus Freeman might actually play a part in what the Irish do? Who knew? Not some of the recruiting experts who acted like Bowden made Notre Dame.

  • Five-star guard Jason Crowe of Inglewood will make his college announcement on July 18. He doesn’t have a list of finalists but USC is believed to still be in contention.

  1. I am SO happy to report this news [cuz it just has to be TRUE] — the print version of Phil Steele ranks USC higher than the earlier online rankings. This means everything. Our troubles are SO over now. Phil says we have an excellent chance of WINNING the Big Ten. [I believe in my heart that Phil’s changes in the rankings are actually his way of siding with me over Sybil —-it’s almost like he’s spitting in Sybil’s face….or squirting something in Sybil’s face…. some other liquid…. which I don’t want to specify]…..

      2. KAM: Vatican cracks down on illegal entry into its territory
        By Almundena Martinez- Bordiu

        ACI Prensa Staff, Jan 15, 2025 / 06:00 am

The Vatican City State has toughened sanctions for those who try to illegally enter its territory in areas where free access is not allowed.

In a decree issued last month by the Holy See, the monetary sanctions and prison sentences for those who violate the strict security regulations of Vatican City have been considerably increased.

The document, signed by Cardinal Fernando Vérguez Alzaga, president of the Pontifical Commission for Vatican City State, provides for monetary fines ranging from 10,000 to 25,000 euros (about $10,200 to $25,700) and prison sentences ranging from one to four years.

These fines will apply especially to those who enter by means of violence, threats, or deception, bypassing border controls or security systems. In addition, those who enter with expired permits or do not meet the established requirements will receive administrative sanctions ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 euros (about $2,060 to $5,145).

The decree emphasizes that the penalties can be increased if the crime is committed with firearms, corrosive substances, by a person in disguise, or by several people together. Likewise, if illegal access is made in a vehicle, the penalty can increase by up to two-thirds.

The document also stipulates that unauthorized overflight of Vatican airspace, including through the use of drones, may be punished with prison sentences from six months to three years in addition to a fine that could reach 25,000 euros (about $26,000).

Anyone convicted of illegal entry will be banned from entering Vatican territory for a period of up to 15 years. If this sanction is breached, the offender may be punished with a prison sentence of one to five years.

In addition, the Vatican’s promoter of justice may summon any person who has committed an offense to appear before the court the day after receiving the complaint or immediately after questioning him.Trending

Vatican City is the smallest state in the world and currently has a population of just over 800 inhabitants. The city-state covers 0.17 square miles. If it were perfectly square, the Vatican would be less than a half mile by a half mile.

The Vatican City State includes areas with free access, such as St. Peter’s Basilica or the Vatican Museums, which require prior security checks.

However, there are other entrances flanked by high walls, such as Porta Santa Ana, Piazza del Sant’Uffizio, or Porta Perugino, reserved for authorized personnel or visitors with special permits.

Economists agree you don’t increase the deficit when the economy is functioning normally, especially if the debt will exceed the GDP.

    1. You wanna hear a fun story? You do?! Oh good. Back in 2009, during the financial meltdown, Obama told the banks they couldn’t give huge bonuses while the American middle class was losing their shirts [and homes]. The banks told Obama “fu*k yourself up the a*s”. Obama then said “if you give big bonuses I’ll tax them 100%” —and the banks said “fu*k you up the a*s.” So Obama told them “I’ll give you a trillion dollar bailout if you promise to give the little guys a break on their mortgages and help them avoid foreclosures.” The banks told Obama “fu*k you up the a*s.” So Obama gave the banks their trillion dollar bailout with no strings attached.

Around this time all the world’s leaders realized Obama was a Big Pus*y and started kicking him around 24/7 —particularly North Korea, China, Russia, Syria and Iran. It was sad to watch….

Smart people realize we can begin to get out of our enormous debt by annually growing the economy at 4% rather than the present two and a half percent [achievable if we incentivize American businesses to come home and produce products and hire their labor here]. Obama and Biden—not knowing the first fu*king thing about growth or business never realized this —their answer was “print more money & buy votes with it.”

      2. Congress bailed out banks because the financial system was about to collapse. The initial bailout occurred during the Bush administration. Obama and Congress followed up with a stimulus package. After its passage, the companies revealed the enormous bonuses Wall Street doled out to its executives. No legal basis existed for the government at that point to revoke the bonuses.

      3. Good reply. I’m impressed. But Obama could have (1) taxed those bonuses in the way he promised & distributed the revenue to those struggling to keep their houses [if, that is, he had the bal*s…but he didn’t] and he could easily have put conditions on the bailout [like maybe telling the banks to reduce mortgage payments by 15% to avoid foreclosures [but he didn’t give a big enuff sh*t to even try].

      1. Not sure if you are saying no stimulus was needed or that it was needed but the amount was excessive. Both parties at the time wanted a stimulus package. Republicans offered a $600 billion package, Dems wanted $1.9 trillion. Reasonable minds may differ on whether the amount was excessive. Some studies show the US would have been in a recession by the end of the year with 10% unemployment. Europe did not provide sufficient stimulus and dealt with slow growth lagging the US. The point remains that in an economic crisis government spending is needed to spur the economy. How much is always debatable.

  6. Bonuses are taxed. I think you mean to suggest a higher tax on the bonuses should have been imposed. Legally no way existed to retroactively raise the tax on income already received. Moreover, Congress, not Obama, decides the content of the stimulus package. It’s highly doubtful Republicans would have agreed to raise taxes on what then was their donor class. Republicans also objected to the government exercising too much control over the internal policies of private enterprises. In any event, my recollection is that bonuses were not an issue when the stimulus package was passed. Only later did it come to light and this led Congress to limit bonuses for companies receiving bailouts in the future.

  8. Nationalize the banks by executive order?! Truman did this during the Korean war to avoid a strike in the steel industry. The Supreme Court overturned Truman’s decision, explaining it’s unconstitutional for the president to seize private property. This is basic stuff. No president has the authority to nationalize an industry or company. You should know this.

  9. I thought “dim dem sophistry” and other comments sounded insulting. We apparently have different views on how to conduct a discussion. I’m willing to continue if we stick to facts and policy. Judging by your comment that Obama had the power to nationalize banks, a discussion of this might help you understand why many of Trump’s executive orders are unconstitutional.
