USC Morning Buzz: This Plan Won’t Make Lincoln Riley Happy

Did you see what Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark said about the College Football Playoff’s expansion to 16 teams?

“I’m doubling down today on 5-11,” Yormark said Tuesday. “I’m confident we’ll get to the right place. I’m confident we’ll get to 5-11.”

That will not make Lincoln Riley happy.

The 5-11 model means the five highest-ranked conference champions would get automatic bids and the remaining 11 spots would be at-large bids based on the rankings.

If this happens, Riley will probably march into Jen Cohen’s office and demand she end the Notre Dame series.

Riley doesn’t want to be one of the best 11 teams in the nation who did not win a conference title. He wants to be the sixth-best team in the Big Ten and try to get into the play-in game just to get one of the four automatic bids.

  • Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione, the current longest-tenured athletic director in major college sports, will step down once his successor is hired. The Sooners won 26 national titles since he became athletic director in 1998.

That reminded me that USC won 31 national titles during Jess Hill’s tenure as athletic director (1957-72).

  1. Oh well, it just got tougher to get into the football Tournament, and apparently Scott does not believe Wiley is up to the task and which seems to be the opinion of Wolf’s posters

    1. KAM: Why would that be the opinion of “Wolf’s Posters”?

DON: Must have something to do with going 7-6 last season including a loss at home to our rival ND and losing 22 players to the Portal.

KAM: How can “Wolf’s Poster” be so negative? The 9 layer bean dip was #1 at the pregame tail gate parties last season.

      1. Personally, I prefer removing the beans and replacing with chorizo cooked with onions, garlic, and peppers.

      4. I would replace because ultimately, the “X layer dip” can only have so many layers. But I hear what you are saying and like the ambition!

      5. You didn’t understand. The chorizo is cooked into the beans. You can also do it with potatoes, as you may do with eggs. So it would still be the same number of layers.

Also forgot to mention something I didn’t discover until visiting Cha Cha Cha that used to be on Melrose. (Where Brian took Mia on their first date in “The Fast and the Furious.) Chorizo & pasta, with the chorizo replacing the sauce. It’s REALLY good! I’m sure they added other little things to really knock it out of the park. Sure miss that place. They also had a great jerk chicken, either as an entree or in a salad.

      6. I hear you about hesitating with soy and you’re probably right with other soyrizos. But with Cacique or Carmelita making it, you can’t go wrong!

    1. KAM: Why are you Democrats such antisemites?

DC-Area Schoolkids Taught to Harass Jews and Admire Hitler. Children at a prestigious DC-area private school are being taught to harass Jews and admire Hitler. And if our moral, ethical, and intellectual betters on the left stay true to form, they’ll turn a blind eye to it.

Adam Kredo, Washington Free Beacon: The prestigious Nysmith School in Northern Virginia received a civil rights complaint Tuesday for allegedly expelling three Jewish students who faced anti-Semitic harassment and whom the school’s headmaster told to “toughen up” after they reported the conduct.

The Nysmith School, known as one of the top 10 institutions in the country for students between kindergarten and eighth grade, allegedly expelled Brian Vazquez and Ashok Roy’s three Jewish children in March, after the parents complained about its “unwillingness to respond to anti-Semitic harassment of their 11-year-old daughter…”

DON: The school “allowed anti-Semitism to take root in her class” over the course of several months, including with a social studies project that saw students promote Adolf Hitler as a “strong historical leader.”

That project “was shared with the entire school community” and contributed to “a pattern of persistent and severe anti-Semitic harassment,” the complaint alleges.

  5. KAM: It’s been six months since wildfires devastated Pacific Palisades, Altadena and other parts of Southern California, and a prominent local figure has called out political leaders for what he sees as a lack of action.

USC Chairman of the Board of Trustees Rick Caruso took to social media on Monday to lambast local government officials for “endless red tape” causing what he calls a lack of progress in rebuilding after the fires. Caruso challenged Democrat Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for that position in 2022.

“Thousands of homes were destroyed, and yet fewer than 100 building permits have been issued after six months,” he wrote alongside a video promoting his nonprofit Steadfast LA. “Does anyone believe this is rapid rebuilding?”

DON: Caruso does cite some progress — power lines will be rebuilt underground, for instance — though he also criticizes officials for a focus on “lofty rhetoric” instead of answers for fire victims and tangible action on the ground.
