Morning Buzz: USC Picked 9th In Preseason Big Ten Poll

USC has been picked to finish ninth in the Big Ten preseason media poll conducted by the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Among the schools picked to finish ahead of the Trojans are Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska.

  • The poll had 24 media members from across the conference vote. They clearly are not buying the spin that Lincoln Riley has turned things around.

Voters were asked which Big Ten coach should be on the hot seat heading into 2025. Wisconsin’s Luke Fickell got 11 votes while Maryland’s Mike Locksley and Riley got six votes.

  2. We are ranked No. 9 but there are only three teams with an arguably more talented roster – Penn State, Ohio State, and Oregon, and we only play one of those teams. Indiana, Iowa, and Nebraska huh. I don’t see it.

    2. We have a great defensive coaching staff and that should keep us in a lot of games. Riley needs to up his game. Did a terrible job at game management last year. On a more positive note, nobody in the BIG has a proven quarterback other than Penn State and Franklin tends to lose big games. We should be able to compete this year, 10-2.

  7. Bohn offered Luke Fickell and was turned down. I suppose we dodged one. Grinch is now a safeties coach at Wisconsin. It seems like the coaching world recycles a lot of garbage. Graham Harrell has been the OC at three different teams since USC fired him.

    1. Not really. Eccentric means quirky, or strange, or odd in relation to the prevailing culture. Michael Jackson was eccentric in how he spoke, how he dressed, his mannerisms, his milk baths, his affection for animals, his germ phobia, his childlike behavior, his Neverland ranch, ect. He would never be thought of as an extremist because of these eccentric qualities. “Beyond eccentric” is a meaningless term. It has nothing to do with what people generally view as political extremism. Really Sparrow, sometimes when your wrong, you should just admit it rather than doubling down.
