Morning Buzz: USC Brain Trust Getting Pushed Into Corner

We are getting closer and closer to the USC brain trust being forced to make a decision on the Notre Dame rivalry, which is a scary thought.

USC has been waiting because it wants the College Football Playoff to expand to 16 teams with four automatic qualifiers for the Big Ten, which in the brain trust’s view makes a loss to Notre Dame less significant.

But Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti said Tuesday he is OK with the College Football Playoff remaining at 12 teams.

“Earlier on, we felt expansion would be a good thing, but we’re not going to expand unless we really feel like the format and access makes sense,” Petitti told Yahoo. “It has to make the regular season better. If it doesn’t do that, why are we doing it?”

This puts USC in a tough spot. The USC-Notre Dame series currently expires in 2025 and Lincoln Riley doesn’t want to play the game under the current CFP conditions.

So what does the brain trust (Riley, Jen Cohen) do for 2026? Does Cohen let Riley run roughshod over her and cancel the series, which would destroy her legacy at USC? Does Riley, who insulates himself from any contact with the fans/boosters/alumni, suddenly become less stubborn and give in to the fan base?

One thing is certain: USC is cast as the villain no matter what excuses Riley/Cohen make such as blaming travel or playing in October, etc., for ending the rivalry.

At the end of the day, Cohen will need to decide if she is a strong enough leader to overrule a coach she saw fit to put a general manager in control over.

It’s all a bit depressing to think these people, who have little feel for the rivalry, will decide something this important.

  1. Money talks. If Riley drops the ND game he is going to hear it and feel it from the donors. It would be the stupidest decision that he ever made.

      1. KAM: Cowardly Sparrow Gabby, When You’re Plotting to Overthrow the Government, Don’t Put It in an Email. Whenever you need to discuss something important that could be misconstrued by people out to get you, always do it over the phone. Never put it in an email or a text message. They warned me never to put anything sensitive in writing — no emails, no texts. Paper trails get people burned. And if what you’re discussing wouldn’t need to be twisted to land you in hot water? All the more reason to keep it off the record.

        Heh.

Going a bit further, anybody who’s ever watched a mobster movie knows that even over the phone, it’s best to speak in code.

So what to make of high-ranking Democrats emailing one another about Hillary’s daily regimen of “heavy tranquilizers,” former Obama intel chiefs discussing how to bolster the Biden campaign, or Obama Himself ordering the intel community to alter its Russiagate findings to hamstring and overthrow the incoming Trump administration?

I’m not 100% certain what to make of it, but Gabbard releasing the paper trail for all to see is just as revealing about Dumbocrat Deep State hubris as it is about their schemes and methods.

The conclusion I’m forced to draw is this:

The Swamp failed to keep Trump from winning the White House in 2016. They redoubled their efforts to tilt the playing field in 2020 and 2024 — and never expected, due to Trump’s first-term failure to drain the Swamp, that they’d get caught. And they expected Trump to be in prison or dead from an assassin before 2025.

USC ND to sign 2 year extension.

Game to be played in Las Vegas in 2026 and Dallas in 2027.

Negotiations continue to “possibly” extend beyond 2027.

      1. KAM: And the tradition of playing home and home is no more. No more Michigan Avenue, Friday Pep rally, Deep Dish Pizza and Rush Street. Nothing more fun than SC fans travelling to and staying in Chicago for the ND game.

DON: Whose brilliant idea was it to play in Dallas????? This must be a ploy to treat it like we were playing LSU or any other disposable rival that can be dropped.

Torsten Sløk, a chief economist at Apollo Global Management, posted a new note admitting that his initial reaction to the policy may have been wrong.

‘Maybe the administration has outsmarted all of us,’ he wrote. ‘This would seem like a victory for the world and yet would produce $400 billion of annual revenue for US taxpayers.’

The admission comes just months after Sløk warned the tariffs would be ‘painful’ and economically destabilizing.

  8. –So the college playoffs are to remain at 12-teams, which means the ‘Big-10’ will get in the 2 teams who play for the conference championship, and maybe one other conference team.

Just getting in to the Tournament is a tall task, so SC fans better grow accustomed to many non-Playoff years

      2. PT and Normal Gabby: Don’t understand why you are so down on our girl Jen. She did a great job at Washington with Petersen. She didn’t hire Riley and didn’t give him the big contract. She allowed Riley to replace/hire the defensive staff and funded it. That was a good call. I also like the GM Bowden hire, the emphasis on California recruiting and the competitive NIL. The only problem I have is with the 200 million football facility and the displacement of the baseball team but I bet Riley was promised that by Bohn when he signed. She hasn’t cancelled ND yet. If she does that, then phuck her.

65,000 calls to this hotline WENT UNANSWERED!

“So you’re telling this committee that the Biden administration, while they were letting all of these unaccompanied minors into the country—and as we’ve talked about today, they weren’t keeping track of them—they issued these kids a hotline that they could call if they had trouble with the sponsor family they were placed with, and you’re saying that 65,000 calls to this hotline, designated to protect these kids, went unanswered. Is that what you’re telling this committee?” Her response: “Yes, sir.”

      2. KAM: According to the newly declassified documents, Russian Intelligence obtained DNC communications revealing Hillary Clinton’s state of health to be “extraordinarily alarming.”

“As of September 2016, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) had Democratic National Committee (DNC) information that President Obama and party leaders found the state of Secretary Clinton’s health to be “extraordinarily alarming” and felt it could have “serious negative impact” on her election prospects. Her health information was being kept in “strictest secrecy” and even close advisors were not being fully informed,” the report said.

“The SVR possessed DNC communications that Clinton was suffering from “intensified psycho-emotional problems, including uncontrolled fits of anger, aggression and cheerfulness.” Clinton was placed on a daily regimen of “heavy tranquilizers” and while afraid of losing, she remained “obsessed with a thirst for power.”

“The SVR also had information that Clinton suffered from “Type 2 diabetes, ischemic heart disease, deep vein thrombosis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,” the report read.
