Lincoln Riley Plays Defense On Notre Dame Game

Lincoln Riley sounded more defensive about his views of the Notre Dame game than any of his Trojan teams looked the past three seasons.

Here is his key quote of the day: “I’m hopeful we can get to the point where (USC-Notre Dame) makes sense.”

So he hasn’t changed his mind. Imagine any great USC coach saying he hoped playing Notre Dame made sense.

Now here’s a fuller quote: “My very first thought (when I got hired at Oklahoma) was I get to coach Oklahoma-Texas. When I decided to take USC job, my first thought was I get to coach USC-Notre Dame. Do I want to play the game? Hell, yeah. I’m hopeful we can get to the point where it makes sense. The two schools are in radically different situations, one in a conference.”

Riley said he wants the Big Ten to get four automatic qualifiers to preserve the rivalry. Right now, that plan is struggling to gain support.

Here he is sounding defensive.

  1. KAM: Bohn Head is laughing in a dive bar somewhere.

DON: What a loser mentality Sir Lincoln of Riley has. USC laying ND doesn’t make sense right now?

      1. KAM: MG, did you notice Hillary’s diagnosis that was worrying Barack Hussein Obaba:”intensified, psycho, emotional problems, including uncontrolled fits of anger, aggression, and cheerfulness”? It sounds just like Cowardly Sparrow Gabby.

DON: Hillary was placed on a daily regimen of heavy tranquilizers… they should do the same for Cowardly Sparrow Gabby.

      2. …giving her a week’s worth every day….Sybil, on the other hand, requires a week’s worth every 4 hours….

  2. We are no closer to winning a national championship than when Clay Helton coached. He’s been a bust. We need to move past him now.

  3. “I want SC to be as good as it can be, and I won’t let anything stand in the way of that” is not reassuring that the Notre Dame game will continue. Making the Playoffs is the primary goal of all college football coaches, and ND is a detriment to SC’s chances is the way Wiley looks at it.

I am sure he likes the Notre Dame rivalry, which coach doesn’t like big games?– But for the good of SC, in his estimation, ND might be disposable

  4. That is just so weak of a statement on his part…what is he thinking?

And the idea that the two universities are “in radically different places because one is in a conference” is a nutty thing to say. It has been that way forever.

      1. Trojan Family? According to several posters here, there’s no such thing. You don’t turn your back on family. Love the sinner, hate the sin.

But that’s not what they believe. I’m sure many Trojans agree with them. So, sadly, the Trojan Family thing is a myth.

      2. KAM: We thought it was a betrayal of Los Angeles fire victims that the local Democrat  run government slow-rolled the building permit process to wait out property owners so the Democrat run state could replace their homes with “low-income” apartments.

DON: It turns out, however, that the betrayal has just gotten worse.

We learn this week, thanks to the great work of a lone reporter at a small Southern California publication called Circling the News, that a whopping $100 million donated to help fire victims isn’t making its way to actual fire victims…. it’s going to lib non-governmental organizations that have nothing to do with the fire and who donate back to the Democrat Machine.

  5. With the dismantling of the Pac-12 SC is left only with natural rivals ucla and ND. It is disingenuous on SC’s part to allow a guy who will be gone from SC in a few years or fewer, to wield so much influence as to whether 100-year old SC-ND continues on for another 100-years

  6. To repeat, winning a national championship is pretty remote. Instead, teams should concentrate on winning rivalry games like SC-ucla and SC-ND

  7. The 80s and 90s were pretty tough for SC football (1985 and 1996 Rose Bowl wins notwithstanding) with the 13 games in a row non-winning streak with the Irish, and the 8 game losing streak to ucla.

Fortunately Carrot came along to restore temporary order, but his departure (and Bush’s impropriety) left the Trojan cupboard bare for the next 15-years except for that 2016 team winning the Rose Bowl and Celeb’s 2022 year

    1. Now, remember what Lincoln said, “we were a play away in every game.”

  8. KAM:  Former Biden Administration Chief of Staff Ron Klain told Congressional investigators that Hillary Clinton and Biden’s National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan approached her and sounded the alarm on Senile Joe Biden just months before he dropped out of the 2024 election.

Klain defended Senile Joe Biden’s mental acuity, however, he disclosed that Hillary Clinton and Jake Sullivan said Joe Biden was not “politically viable.”

DON: So Hitlery and Jake knew what Ron KlaIn and Cowardly Sparrow Gabby refused to acknowledge- Biden is senile!
