Did you see Lincoln Riley endorse Pete Carroll for the College Football Hall of Fame during his Big Ten media day speech?
It was a nice gesture but also a bit strange. Why? Did anyone hear a word about Lincoln Riley ever stopping by the class Carroll taught in the spring semester? Carroll literally passed by Heritage Hall each week and it wouldn’t have taken much effort for Riley to walk over to the class one afternoon.
Did it ever happen? You literally had a USC legend and current NFL coach coming to campus every Thursday and there were no reports of Riley visiting?
Someone will probably say “Riley had spring practice on Thursdays when Carroll taught the class.”
USC had five Thursday spring football practices. Carroll’s class ran for 3.5 months. One class even took place at the Coliseum and that’s one place Riley knows besides the McKay Center.
Mike Williams, Steve Kerr, Jason Sudeikis, Tom Brady, Deepak Chopra, Rainn Wilson, JuJu Watkins, Lindsay Gottlieb and Rich Eisen were at the class.
KAM: James Franklin Obviously Not A Fan Of Las Vegas For Big Ten, Praises SEC
While the SEC and ACC usually hold their events in a region that stays within the boundaries of their conference footprint, the Big Ten headed west to Las Vegas this week. In the same thinking, the Big Ten held their spring meetings in the Los Angeles area, which led to only a handful of media members making the trip, while also deciding to not hold any type of press event at the end of each day.
This led to Penn State head coach James Franklin voicing a little bit of frustration at holding the event outside their normal region, even though the Big Ten has obviously added teams from the West Coast area.
” A lot of our beat writers did not come to this because they could not afford to get out here,” James Franklin said of Big Ten media days in Las Vegas. “And the majority of our teams are near Chicago, where this used to be. A majority of our teams are near Indianapolis, where this used to be, and it creates a different environment. I walk around the lobby, I don’t see any signage, I don’t see anything for the Big Ten, I don’t see people getting autographs. It’s a different vibe, and a different feeling.
“I think that other conference (SEC), when they have their meetings, there’s essentially a press conference every single day at the end of meetings. It keeps people talking about that conference at a time of the year. It makes them relevant. We’re not doing that. We need to be talking about the Big Ten and our programs, and the things that we’ve done, and making it as accessible to everyone as we possibly can. Connecting with the fans. Don’t misinterpret what I’m saying. Vegas is a special place and I think they run events as well as anybody.”https://www.outkick.com/sports/james-franklin-compliments-sec-for-media-day-compared-to-big-tenlol

Franklin’s got balls. This needed to be said. And, of course, Lincoln didn’t say it.

–Figure the 2 top teams playing for the ‘Big-18’ championship will make it to the Playoffs, and probably a 3rd team, and possibly a 4th
So whether SC plays Ohio St, Penn St or Washington this year is of no consequence because the Trojans still have to beat them out in the standings to qualify for the Payoffs, Playoffs

DON: It’s ridiculous to have 18 teams in one conference! The ideal was when there was the Pac 10 and all the teams played 9 opponents.

Nonetheless, Wiles will be judged by his win-loss record, and if successful he will wash away the criticisms. Problem is does he have race horses this year or quarter horses?

SC killed itself when it dissolved the Pac-12 because in that conference with only 12 teams versus the current 18-teams, it would have been easier to qualify for the Playoffs where the big money lies

A shout-out to the life lived by Wallis Annenberg, deceased today at 85, a billioniare heiress who gave most of it away to Los Angeles’ art palaces built with her name attached, and also paid for wild animal crossings over busy freeways

Here is an interesting (25 minutes) review of Riley and this year’s team.
About 2 minutes in, there is a graphic showing who left, and who came in. WTF, a lot of talent is gone. Among all the other issues with LR is his inability to keep talent:

I think we’re okay if we stay healthy — we obviously don’t have that much talent on defense …but… they’re gonna be well coached and well conditioned …and that should slow down the opposition enough for us to outscore most teams…. now it’s up to Jayden to play at the high level he played through three and a half quarters against Notre Dame.

Wow, a not so subtle shot from Miller Moss at ACC Meetings. “And I think just being around good and decent human beings . . . I wanted to be around good and decent human beings that cared about the right things and cared about one another, and I think I’ve absolutely found that within this program.”
