USC Sunday Buzz: No Place Like Home

With football season approaching, USC offers former football players two comp tickets to one game each season.

The only problem — from the point of view of some players — is the seats are located in Section 102. That’s the dreaded section where visiting fans and bands get stuck.

Here is how it is described in an email to players: “As a continuation of last season and due to overwhelming support from our former players, Section 102 has been designated as our former player complimentary ticket section to create a shared game day experience.”

  • USC plays its first game today in its new soccer game at 5 p.m. The game is sold out but will be streamed on BigTenPlus.com.

  3. I am guessing there is no comp’d parking, or access to the high roller food and beverage suite, wherever that is, for former players.

    I wonder whose idea this is. Getting former players back is huge for the current team and alums. WTF, show some hospitality, USC.

    1. KAM: Once again Jen “Taco Lita” Cohen manages to alienate the alumni base by foisting off the worst tickets to our former student athletes while big bucks donors get treated like royalty.

    1. True —[it wasn’t this way under Pete —- and, btw, the program was the envy of the nation back then —- that’s probably why the NCAA decided to destroy it…. and Pat Haden decided to let them]…..

      1. Didn’t Pat pass the bar? What kind of lame ass job did he do representing the university with the NCAA? I am assuming they brought in first-tier attorneys to work the case?

      2. Pat wasn’t stupid. Far from it. So his comment “we have to accept this and move on” suggests a deeper problem was going on with Pat.

        [If Pat had simply filed a denial of due process case in federal court (for one thing, the NCAA denies cross examination of witnesses), with all the discovery implications that accompany such a filing, the NCAA would have rolled over].

    1. KAM: I sat in Section 102 with a mixed group of SC and UCLA Fans at the 1989 SC-UCLA game and those seats are so bad that we couldn’t tell from there if the field goal at the end of the game was good or not.

      DON: What an insult to offer those horrible seats to former Trojan players instead of giving them field passes like Pete used to do!

  8. A friend of mine worked security at USC football games for many years. Scott knew him – Bill Beasley. He used to have a place near the press box where he could move celebrities to keep them from being harassed. He did that for Johnny Carson and Barbara Streisand among many others. I wonder if they still have that place because it would seem to be a nice place to put the former players. I would also think that the donor class in their tower might enjoy a meet and greet with the former players.

      DON: Or tailgate outside while the game goes on and watch on your smart phone and don’t give a penny to SC for hot dogs, peanuts and beer.
