USC Blinks On Notre Dame Rivalry

Athletic director Jen Cohen has told the L.A. Times that she is “hopeful” that a new USC offer to extend the Notre Dame series will be accepted by the Irish.

The key is USC wants to play the game every year in September and needs Notre Dame to go along with the new date.

REACTION: The fact USC is now backing down about continuing the series demonstrates that it is not confident the Big Ten’s desire for four automatic College Football Playoff berths will be accepted.

The plan has been criticized and the SEC does not support it.

I would rather USC play Notre Dame in South Bend in October than September. But Lincoln Riley doesn’t want to travel during the Big Ten season (even though it’s only every other year).

At least this latest proposal shows USC knows its fans want the series to continue. Now let’s see how Notre Dame responds. It would be interesting if the Irish insisted on playing in October.

  1. This would be a win, if only because the weather in SB is much better in September than October even if our boys should be more accustomed to playing in bad weather after joining the BIG65.

  3. I think TV contracts might be trying to force a September game.

Oregon and Oregon State and Washinton and Washington State all played their rivalry games in September for the first time last year.

    1. That’s what’s wrong with Riley the admins in HH. They are factoring in a loss.

Why not think what a WIN over the Irish would do?

  4. A few months back, the ND coach Freeman said that a September date was fine. This is a good development. ND will accept the offer. The series lives on. And I always thought that a tough early season opponent motivated a team to train harder in the doldrums of July and August. Hard to get motivated for Missouri State. We are going to have some great recruits coming into the program in the next few years. ND is going to get their azz kicked.

  8. DON: ND has owned SC of late, but the Trojans found the ‘holy grail’ with its 2026 recruitments, so SC will be able to put up a better fight

KAM: Still, SC has sent good teams to Notre Dame Stadium to no avail. Trojans blame biased refs but you get that with every home referee team.

DON: Or is it ‘the luck of the Irish?’– I heard about one year during a storm the wind blew in the face of SC in the first half, and then at halftime the wind reversed its course and blew in the face of SC in the second half too

    1. KAM: President Trump Revokes My Secret Service Protection- the Fake News made a big deal about it. I previously received six months of protection after leaving office in accordance with federal law.

That period ended on July 21. Senile Joe Biden, however, extended my protection by an additional year for undisclosed reasons, according to CNN.

How unsurprising that Senile Joe Biden and his handlers would make a mockery of the law once again, and now act like Trump is being unreasonable now.

  12. Sure September in South Bend is fine, whatever i dont care about that. I dont like that USC is also trying to move the Thanksgiving game against Notre Dame to September as well. Playing every Thanksgiving weekend at home is a great tradition I don’t want USC to give up.
