USC-Missouri State Live Blog

I’m not sold on the defense.

Husan Longstreet comes in and frankly, the offense looks the same.

Well, it did until the poor blocking led to a fumble.

Jayden Maiava: 15-18, 295 yards, 2 TD passes, 1 rushing

Decent crowd now at the game.

Pass defense would be a mess if USC were playing a real opponent.

Missouri State just let Lake McRee go 64 yards for a TD.

USC leads, 14-3, after the first quarter. Is it over?

Waymond Jordan restores order for USC.

  • Who had USC trailing today?
  • The USC Associates, a donor group that has a huge tailgate before home games, has its smallest crowd today since 2020. Guess Missouri State isn’t a draw. Thanks, Riley!

    1. I hope it helps them get a look at players in game time and everyone shakes out the butterflies. Glad you are hoping for something bad, great fan.

      1. KAM: The Good News is we won our scrimmage 73-13. All that Riley Coyote Spring and Fall practice paranoia and secrecy sure paid off!

DON: The Bad News is now all the other teams know our offense and defense now and might be able to use the tape of the scrimmage to plan against us. If only there was a way for Riley Coyote to have USC play all their games in total secrecy.

    1. “. . . the Bruins’ defense was far from helpful, allowing 493 total yards, a 14-of-16 conversion rate on third downs and four touchdown drives of nine plays or more. . .”

This defense rivaled Missouri State. 90% conversion rate! Did the Bruin offense even get on the field. Well, yes, there were kickoffs after Ute touchdowns.

      1. KAM: Riley Coyote is too gutless to ever schedule Utah again. Mizzou State is more his level of preseason opponent.

DON: Yes the Utes own Riley Coyote…. 0-3.

      2. KAM Imagine what Whittingham could do with USC’s talent?

DON: Talk about a missed opportunity. And many of us may not be around by the time the Riley Coyote Era is over.

  1. DON: Guess my days of a football prognosticater are over, I thought giving MO State 36-points would have been enough, but that barely made it to halftime

KAM: –Everyone got to play and smile, and there will be 9 Trojan touchdown guys seeing if their picture made the L.A. Times

DON: However, the big offensive plays by SC were muted due to Mo State forgetting to bring to the game its defensive unit

KAM: Even the crowd understood what was going on, dwindling to a few thousand at the end

DON: But with the victory Wiley’s record is now almost as good as ‘Ton-o-Hel’s

  2. KAM: This game speaks to my idea of ‘Sports Win-Lose Illusion.’ Mo State didn’t have the talent of SC’s but they played their hearts out. To me they’re winners

DON: For me there is no illusion between winning and losing

    1. KAM: Imagine if Bohn Head and Carol Dolt had hired Utah Legend Kyle Whittingham instead of the callow Riley Coyote? We could have had Whittingham for peanuts. He would have brought toughness and defense back to USC, qualities we haven’t seen since Pete waved farewell sixteen years ago in 2009.

DON: Like Pete, Whittingham fears no opponent. Instead we had that spectacle yesterday, an embarrassment to all USC Fans who remember the days of McKay, Robinson and Carroll.

      1. Whittingham is a Mormon who enjoys living in Utah with his wife. He didn’t want the USC job. He has been offered more prestigious jobs before and always turned them down.

  3. DON: It is tough to make much out of a game of this type. All of our runners are not going to look like Jim Brown every week. And the defense was not tested.

KAM: But you got to love how Maiava looked like a different player from last year

DON: I only wish SC had opened with Ohio St or Texas, both of whom were beatable yesterday

  4. KAM: It is Sunday, you got anything non-preachy about God that would be relevant to the 73-13 football game yesterday?

DON: God is usually on the side of big squadrons and against little ones

  5. KAM: Tee hee hee. I can’t help myself but the bruins being scalped by the Utes reminded me of how SC benefitted by not playing Utah anymore

DON: SC-Utah was developing into quite the rivalry

    1. KAM: “SC-Utah WAS developing into quite the rivalry.”

Riley Coyote thinks he’s winning by being a coward and ducking competition.

DON: John McKay just rolled over in his grave.

      1. Yes, a Trojans win and a Ruins loss is usually very satisfying. But at least they played a real team.

SUCLA fans have always tried to take pride in that, but the truth is other teams love to play them as a warm up game.

  6. Fresno State defeated Georgia Southern 42 to 14. Looks like we will open up against two incredibly weak programs. Did you see Riley after the game? He was all smiles telling the interviewers how hard the guys played throughout training camp and that this team is special and he couldn’t wait to show it to the world. We are still waiting Riley. Hell, UCLA would look good against Missouri State and Georgia Southern as long as they were home games before a Rose Bowl crowd of 18,000.
