Will UCLA Pursue D’Anton Lynn?

I see some are pushing USC defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn as a strong candidate for the UCLA job and some of the reactions are absurd.

Some USC fans believe Lynn would never leave for UCLA. Really? A defensive coordinator would turn down becoming a head coach in the Big Ten at a Los Angeles school that will no doubt promise to throw more money at the program for NIL and assistant coaches.

On the other side, I don’t think it’s going to happen because I suspect UCLA will prefer someone with head-coaching experience.

Look at how much Purdue has improved with first-year coach Barry Odom. He was a natural for the UCLA job when he was at UNLV but Martin Jarmond ignored him. I recommended Odom when Chip Kelly resigned.

Look at the buzz with Jason Eck at New Mexico. He went 26-13 at Idaho from 2021-24. If he wins at Fresno State, Matt Entz will be a candidate for a bigger job.

It’s always better to get a coach who is used to winning more with less. Lincoln Riley was the opposite. An entitled guy given the Oklahoma job who thinks everyone owes him something.

UCLA needs a guy who has dealt with adversity and overcome it. Someone hungry. Not someone who sneers at the fans.

  1. It is virtually 100% they won’t hire another coach without HC experience. Foster didn’t even have OC experience, much less HC experience. They can’t make the same mistake again.

Foster seems like a decent hard-working guy, but if you go back and watch his presser after being hired, it is apparent he wasn’t ready for the job.

Foster was probably the lowest paid coach in D4. at $3 million. I am guessing they will need to pay at least $6 million annually to get a quality person, given their awful history, and given the cost of housing in LA, and they might need to swallow a bigger buyout than Foster’s $6.4 million.

Question is, will they pay the $$$?

      1. I felt for the guy…the sense I got from Jarmond is that his orders when he hired Foster were “bring in somebody on the cheap!”

        And he did…

      2. Your sentiments do you proud, 67 —not many people are spending one half second thinking about what a nightmare experience this has been, from the very beginning, for Foster….

  2. UCLA is a total rebuild. You need lots of money and I doubt UCLA will pay it. Seriously, the New Mexico guy would probably be better off waiting for something better to open up. One positive if you can somehow land him, he will likely be able to bring several players with him and the New Mexico players are more talented than the UCLA roster.

  3. KAM: “You need conservatives to be afraid of getting killed when they go to events,” says caring atheist Mainstream Moderate Democrat Sam Harris podcast co-host Destiny. Their dialogues reflect a mutual respect for each other’s viewpoints.

DON: It’s time to call it all out. No more looking the other way. Mainstream Moderate Democrat Destiny is saying this to encourage more assassinations by Democrats despite the fact every conservative is already on edge.

KAM: As is so typical with men who hate each other, Harbow said if Carrot and he were on the same team, they probably would have been friends. But bing on opposite sides, Harbow says, “I’m not on his Chrismas card list”

  5. Now that Foster has been fired, who gets his handicapped parking space. Obviously, not a paralyzed Jewish student with a wheelchair. Maybe a Palestinian kid with a sprained wrist.

      2. “With your kind.” Really Sparrow. Just what kind are you? Fight On pegged you so well. “A psuedo-intellectual who pretends to be above the fray.” A man who claims moral and intellectual superiority when he is neither moral or intellectually superior. A weak person who cannot response to an argument but instead deflects and obfuscates.

KAM: The Repubs are hung up on the word “equally,” which does not have to mean 50-50 but rather that both sides share some blame.

  6. One thing about the other sports blogs like Trojan Daily is they keep the dialogue strictly about sports, which is hard to get into a fight over. But you start in with the poltical stuff and it raises tempers

  8. Scooter,

ucla football is dead. the AD hired the wrong guy. Foster was not ready. What has the AD and the department done to bring excitement to the team? That is nothing. They are hurting for money. they own $280 million in debt and they have to pay Ca $10 million a year. ugly will have to hire a coach like Fickell of that quality of a coach. They won’t spend the money. They will have to spend around $8 mill per year for a head coach that is worth his experience. ugly won’t spend that. The NIL is hurting both schools, but at least SC can attract kids because of its history and offense. I saw a lber for ugly that I know and he looked like he was mailing it in. I know that this is not the case and he is busting his ass, but he just seemed to be out of place.

  10. Dave Aranda is ready to leave Baylor. They have grown tired of Aranda at Baylor and he can’t get past Kansas or Texas Tech. At least at UCLA he will get three years that he won’t get at Baylor.

But will Casey Wasserman step up and get it done? This is never something any AD can do without financial backing and UCLA is only supporting the men’s basketball team financially above the norm.
