USC Morning Buzz: Penalty Problems

USC is ranked No. 127 nationally in penalty yards per game. UCLA is the worst team nationally.

This list doesn’t back up Lincoln Riley’s theory that bad teams often commit the fewest penalties.

  • Georgia ranks No. 4 nationally for fewest penalties. Ohio State and Penn State are tied for No. 5.

That doesn’t back up Riley’s theory either. Riley said Monday night USC opponents are telling the refs about hands-to-face penalties in pre-game meetings. So then don’t commit them, right?

  • USC had a little trouble spelling Champaign, Ill., on Monday.

  1. I don’t mind the hands to the face. I think it pays dividends… if it’s not done too obviously and doesn’t last too long. I do mind being anywhere near the punter —we need to preserve stops more than we need to intimidate the punter …..on the other hand, I don’t want the phucked-up-the-asz Big Ten officiating to cause us to get so lax in punt situations that we wind up inviting a faked punt….

      1. KAM: Yes the theory of teaching the players to cheat instead of playing correctly is not working too well.

DON: Imagine SC being ranked the 7th worst team on NCAA Division I football in penalties…The Big Ten refs are now expecting SC to commit penalties.

  2. It’s probably time for Scott to do a piece wherein he says all kind things about Lincoln, the team and the Athletic Department —-and gets zero replies….

  3. Yes, they do need to clean things up. However, it has only been three games. It is too early to counter Riley’s claim, based on this year’s data.

    Fewest Penalty YPG *2024 Season:

    1. Iowa St.
    2. Iowa
    3. Air Force
    4. West Virginia
    5. Army
    6. Rutgers
    7. Western Michigan
    8. Sam Houston
    9. Northwestern
    10. Minnesota

While these teams led the nation in fewest penalty yds. per game, none of them had great success last year.

While penalties are a factor, they do not fully define a team’s level of play. Having fewer penalties is definately important, but I agree with CLR that having an aggressive team is important too. It’s the stupid penalties that I hate (i.e. running into the Punter on 4th down and long). They should have been in “safe” punt coverage in that situation and that one is inexcusable.

Recent Scandal Involving caring tolerant LBGTQ+ loving lib Sen. Ron Wyden’s Family

Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) is currently embroiled in a scandal involving a lawsuit that claims his children harassed a LBGTQ+ personal assistant to the point of driving him to suicide. This tragic situation has garnered significant media attention and raised serious questions about the conduct of his family. Details of the Lawsuit

DON: The lawsuit was filed by Thomas Maltezos, the husband of Brandon O’Brien, who worked as a personal assistant for Wyden’s wife, Nancy Bass Wyden, from June 2022 until September 2024. O’Brien was reportedly responsible for caring for the couple’s children and was subjected to severe harassment by them. Key allegations include:

    • Homophobic Slurs: The Wyden’s teenage son reportedly used homophobic slurs against O’Brien, contributing to a hostile work environment.
    • Lack of Action: The lawsuit claims that Nancy Wyden did not take appropriate action to address the alleged harassment.
    • O’Brien tragically committed suicide in May 2025, only 4 months ago, which has intensified the scrutiny on the Wyden family.
    • Maltezos’s lawsuit seeks accountability for the alleged actions of the Wyden children and claims that the harassment led to O’Brien’s death.

      1. Same way they contacted social media giants before the 2020 election, instructing them which posts to delete and which accounts to spend. They couldn’t beat Trump honestly. They had to cheat. Covering up his dementia the way they did is the biggest scandal in our nation’s history.

Then, when in office, Biden’s team instructed major media news outlets HOW TO REPORT ON HIS IMPEACHMENT INQUIRY!

Add that to the way he banned media from the border and tried to create a Disinformation Governance Board, to shut down anyone who said anything disparaging about them, and it is FREAKING hilarious they would be stupid enough to claim Trump is the authoritarian!
