USC Morning Buzz: Suspicious Timing

Remember back in May, USC barely had anything to say about the Notre Dame series and Jen Cohen wasn’t talking?

But in late August, Cohen was talking about wanting a multi-year extension with the Irish. What changed?

Maybe Netflix’s millions were being dangled over the summer and that caused USC to become more cooperative with Notre Dame so it could try and get that 2026 game in Mexico City. What else motivates USC besides money?

  • Claudia Cardinale, who has made multiple appearances in the Friday notes column, has died. She was 87.

She was best known for “Once Upon a Time in the West” and “8½.”

      1. Yet millions of morons were surprised the night of June 27. Smart, informed people were not. They had known for more than 4 years that Joe was already suffering from dementia.

So you can pretend the people who voted for dementia are smarter than everyone else all you want.

The daily news is such a barometer for LA sports. Tennis boy, Ball Brothers, and Mora have done so much for LA sports.

  1. One comment on the USC v. ND series: it is not a Big10 matchup. It may be the greatest intersectional rivalry in the history of football (which it is) – but it is still a non-conference game. So all the machinations USC is attempting with TV deals and contracts (which are admittedly low-brow money-grubbing), and the Big10 weighing in, should be put in a little bit of perspective.
