Remember before the Purdue game how Lincoln Riley talked about the new travel plans for road trips?
USC would fly bigger, more comfortable planes on those taxing road trips and had researched sleep patterns or something, something.
“We’ve made a couple changes in that, a couple changes in the schedule, kind of timing of eating, timing of what time we put them in the bed,” Riley said. “We’ve done a lot of research on sleep.”
So what impact have these changes made?
Well, USC squeaked past awful Purdue, got manhandled by Illinois and bullied by Notre Dame.
Sounds like the differences are paying off.
- USC is planning on bringing back its regional alumni associations. The 45 club were dropped by Carol Folt in 2020 and there was some blowback from angry alumni.
It will be interesting to see if the athletic dept. brings back its Trojan Clubs.
The first eight regional alumni clubs will be in the Bay Area, Chicago, Denver, New York, Portland, San Diego, Seattle and Washington, D.C.
- The USC-Nebraska game on Nov. 1 will kick off at 4:30 p.m. PT and be on NBC.
Again, another excuse from CLR. It’s always something as to why USC cannot perform on the road outside of the state of California. This is what we’re getting for $10 Million per year? A non stop litany of excuses.

Look at Coach Pneumonia’s road record after year one, not exactly impressive.
I’m sure Riley has done a lot of research on sleep, he and his team look asleep on the road

KAM: Today Cowherd and RJ III agreed that USC made a huge mistake leaving the Pac 12 and having to travel 3 time zones and play in inclement weather.
DON: They said ND is a cold weather team that will thrive in January, while SC under Riley Coyote are light weights who can’t take a little rain.

Almost certainly would have lost anyway, but if you watch the ND TD kickoff return again, there are multiple, obvious holds. And there is the facemask on Jayden, and the helmet that was pulled off Ja’Kobi, and obvious pass interference on Makai in the first half, and some big time holds by their O-line on some of the big rushing gains.

DON: Shame on Riley Coyote for not firing the current special teams coordinator for the USC Trojans Ryan Dougherty,

Yep. Big time (or maybe I should say “small time”) arm tackles, resulting from over pursuit.
Our kicker is really good. Did he just not hit it as far as usual and send it out of the end zone? Or was he told to place it around the 5 yard line?

I think he was told to kick short …. we had some luck on a short kick before that one [I think we got their runner down just past the 20]….. but in games like that one it’s best to take our ball at the 25 …and kick their ball outta the endzone…

Yeah, I remember when they pulled the plug on the regional alumni groups. The letter that went out was a word salad of catchphrases like “customizable events” and “curated experiences” and whatnot, along with an admonishment that registered trademarks belonging to the university were not to be used without first informing the university of the nature of the event, and then getting express written permission for use in connection with same. It almost appeared as though USC was borrowing a page from Disney’s playbook, and having lawyers send out cease-and-desist letters if they found out that an invitation sent out to a dozen people for a private watch party had run afoul of the new rules.

There is no word that is more overused today than “curated”. Unless it is “customizable”. That stuff drives me crazy. Whatever happened to the time when curated was only used in museums?

Mickey G: on SC’s behalf i called Ed Kezirian who is retired, and asked him if he was interested in an opportunity to revive his career as a preeminent Big 10 Towel Waver. when i told him it was for SC, he said “what are you, some kind of nut??” so i guess that’s a no.
this brings to mind the season SC employed a bizarre chorus line of skinny fourth stringers who would hop up and down twirling white towels frantically. on a rather queeer side note, they were all white kids (one has to conclude the coaches ordered them to it, but the blacks dudes were too cool to capitulate). i think this must have been post-Reggie sanctions cause they appeared to be walk-ons.

DON; The University of Southern California has approximately 6,000 international students from Red China, making it the largest group of foreign students at the university. That is 6000 unvetted Red Chinese, like this predator, taking places from Americans. No wonder the admittance rate to USC has gone for 70% 35 years ago to 9% now. No more legacy admits. Someone on this blog has described Riley as “on the cusp” —-I think that’s correct. Riley is smart, he understands offense better than 90% of the coaches out there, he’s articulate —but he’s not empathetic. He demands a driver, he avoids the alums, he doesn’t attend events unless he absolutely has to. A man like that doesn’t know HOW to get the kids motivated on those brutal road trips every other week —the proof is in the pudding: we are an entirely different [confused, demoralized, lost] team on the road.

Why does that KAM response of LR to his players remind me of The Simpson’s Krusty the Clown, played by LR here, when he says to his daughter, as in his team… I’m not the kind of dad who, you know, does things or says stuff or looks at you. But the love is there.
A propped up cardboard cutout of a real HC would be better on the sideline to encourage his team than LR. And that figure would probably be better at seeing what the defense is giving him for playcalling, too.

DON: Another thing about that SC-ND game was how in the second half there was a driving drenching rain that favored ND’s running attack and stunting SC’s passing attack
KAM: Maybe the Trojans should practice with wet balls once in a while. I saw this sports column this morning about the sustainability of the Trojan-Irish rivalry– “No other top program wants a team such as Notre Dame smack dab in the middle of its conference slate”
DON: –And a loss to ND counts against SC in its quest for a 10-2 record. You only get 2 bad games and you’re out
KAM: There is a reason most of SC’s national championships occurred in years when ND played at SC– 1972, 1974, 1978, 2004. Titles were also obtained in 1967 and 2003 with extraordinary O.J. and Bush

Scooter,
If Riley were to be fired or bought out, would you trust Jen Taco Lita Cohen to make the right hire? I would not. She can’t even get the nd agreement signed. She thinks as if SC were just a medicore football team like Washington. she has no clue what SC is. She would probably hire another Lincoln, Deer in the headlights Riley type of coach.
