USC Morning Buzz: Do You Trust Lincoln Riley Or Matt Rhule Less?

Remember when Lincoln Riley said he was going to get more involved with the defense after his first season?

It worked out so well he fired Alex Grinch (or was forced to fire him).

Riley then hired D’Anton Lynn, who had one year of experience as a defensive coordinator.

The defense had some moments last season, except in the clutch (of course) but then all the homers claimed this was finally the year for stellar defense.

Boy, were they wrong.

Road games seem to particularly vex Riley and Lynn, so will Nebraska be a problem? Frankly, lowly Purdue was a problem and required a pick-six by a 360-pound defensive lineman (barely seen since) to secure a victory. Nebraska will be a cauldron compared to that.

Nebraska tailback Emmett Johnson is the second-leading rusher in the Big Ten, averaging 104.6 yards per game.

Quite a dilemma. Trust Riley and Lynn or Matt Rhule.

  • Notice how after the loss to Notre Dame no one talked about the Shillelagh, which remained in South Bend for the third straight year. What are the odds Riley even knows what the Shillelagh is?
  • Monday was the 75th anniversary of the release of the classic film, “All About Eve,” which is a must-see for anyone. It was ranked No. 16 in AFI’s list of the 100 best American films.

Marilyn Monroe has only a small role but practically jumps off the screen and captured the attention of audiences who wanted to know more about her.

  1. KAM: I have to jump in here and make a defense for the defense. The SC boys play hard

DON: This is on the SC offense too. They play games too close and leave it up to the defense to bail them out

  3. KAM: Censored again. Let’s change the subject, but isn’t it great to know America has been our land since the 1600s. Of course we took it from the Indians

DON: The Indians brutally warred against each other, took each other’s land, practiced slavery, human sacrifice, cannibalism and oppressed their women before the white man came and yet Democrats still promote Rousseau’s “Noble Savage” myth that they were somehow better than the rest of the world.

By that logic the group that calls themselves Palestinians have no right to the land occupied by Israel. The Jews can trace their heritage back at least 3,000 years with the occupation of Jerusalem by King David in 1,000 a.d. The temple walls and artifacts and the Torah are a testament to this occupation. There is no historical record of a so called Palestinian occupation. No buildings, no artifacts, no government, no writings, and no cultural history. They largely come from Jordan. Charlie Kirk asked a self identified Palestinian antisemite dressed in a hijab “name one cultural trait that is uniquely Palestinian – music, food, dress, dance, art, ect – no response.

    1. KAM: Barack Obama says the quiet part out loud — it’s time to “experiment” with “new forms of journalism” with “government regulatory constraints.” “Part of what we’re going to have to do is to start experimenting with new forms of journalism and how we use social media in ways that reaffirm facts and separate facts from opinion. We want diversity of opinion. We don’t want diversity of facts. That, I think, is one of the big tasks of social media. By the way, it will require some government regulatory constraints…”

      1. The rub is that Obama and the Globalists alone decide what is a fact. Gore told us that global warming was an existential threat and this is an irrefutable scientific fact on the level of gravity. He claimed that in little more than a decade it would melt glaciers, shrink the ice caps, cause a rise in sea levels, wipe out the polar bear populations, cause an increase in hurricanes, tornados, and droughts. None of this was true. It was grab for greater government power so they could take away your gas burning car and tell you to take the subway while they fly in private jets. The damages they caused to the world economy based on this falsehood is incalculable. Thankfully, Trump has largely stopped it. “Drill baby drill.”

    2. Great cast and dialogue. Thanks Scott. You left out Sanders “go over to that man he is a producer.” Monroe “Why do they always look like unhappy rabbits.”

Always liked George Sanders who frequently played a cynical womanizer and always did it well. And as they say, Bette Davis did not really act. She just showed off for the cameras.

      2. Agree MG. Brando in On the Waterfront and Streetcar Named Desire steals every scene. How about Jack Nicholson in The Shinning, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Batman, and As Good As It Gets. Don’t think he was our greatest actor but always entertaining.

      3. I bet Nicholson learned a ton about stealing scenes from working with Brando in Missouri Breaks —pay attention to their first scene together where Brando repeats all Nicholson’s lines with a devilish grin [Jack: I saw a man blow a woman’s head off while she was carrying a pale of water”…..Marlon: “A pale of water”….. Jack: “Well, that was the first time I heard the term “regulator”…Marlon: “The first time”].

    1. KAM: What’s Up With TV Anchors Adding an Accent When Pronouncing Spanish Names?

We’ve all experienced the ‘accent road bump’ during a TV news program. That’s where an anchor or reporter comes across a Spanish word or name and suddenly there’s some very noticeable pronunciation gymnastics. It’s time for this absurd practice to stop.

DON: Rob Finnerty asks why anchors pronounce Spanish-sounding names with an accent, starts talking in an Irish accent to prove how ridiculous it is. “As I’ve said before, I am Irish. And if I was moderating that debate, would the host introduce me as Robert James Finnerty, don’t you know the little lad that he is Robert James Finnerty?” “If the host was Chinese, would they then introduce that person with a Chinese accent? I don’t think so. Stop it.”https://x.com/CollinRugg/status/1983232925530542311?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1983232925530542311%7Ctwgr%5E3a6612843b1f7de417e3dd91fa5e2c91cab35463%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Finstapundit.com%2F753543%2Flol

  8. Road games are tough for USC, as will be Iowa. Imagine losing to Huskers, Iowa, Oregon, and the gutties. Would that be enough to pull the plug on LR? Buy out would likely be $65 million or so, but assume that it could be negotiated down.

    1. I think they likely win all their home games. That is 7 wins. (Five against relatively easy opponents.) They already beat Purdue, so 8 wins is minimal and they likely land with an 8-4 record. They will not beat Oregon in Eugene. Very disappointing but enough to keep the recruiting class intact. Riley is safe until 2027 as long as recruiting goes well.
