USC Morning Buzz: Telling Truth When It Is Convenient

Have you noticed how many people are telling us what an awful coach/person Brian Kelly is now that he is no longer the coach at LSU?

This is a pet peeve of mine. People who wait until a coach leaves to tell the truth or reveal what they knew.

When Lincoln Riley departs USC one day, we’ll hear stories about his coaching or something people that worked or interacted with him didn’t like.

Whether it’s Riley or Clay Helton, I’ve said in real time what the shortcomings are. Ask yourself how many others do it?

  • Nebraska has lost 28 consecutive games to ranked opponents.

“I believe God is saying ‘Here is another opportunity. Let’s see what you go do with it,’ ” Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola said.

Nebraska coach Matt Rhule is 3-25 against AP top ranked teams.

  • The City of Pasadena and the Rose Bowl Operating Company filed a lawsuit against UCLA and the University of California Regents on Wednesday, accusing the university of trying to move home football games from the Rose Bowl to SoFi Stadium per the L.A. Times.

UCLA’s lease with the Rose Bowl goes through 2042. An attorney for UCLA said the school has not breached its contract by having “preliminary discussions” about relocation.

The complaint filed by the Rose Bowl said when it asked UCLA to comply and commit to the lease until 2044, UCLA responded by stating “only that it intended to play its home games at the Rose Bowl for the remainder of the 2025 football season.”

    1. Have you listened to [and/or seen] the recent Governor Newsom interview in which he does the old Steve Martin routine of “being born a poor black kid”? He’s doing the most insulting impersonation of [what he thinks to be] a black—lots of Snoop wiggles and hand gestures, lots of “Mans” and Bros”, lots of talk about raising himself on Wonderbread sandwiches watching sports on T. V……it’s so inauthentic that it’s actually fun to watch…..

      1. Exactly. His dad was the lawyer to the billionaire Getty family, which bankrolled him. Gavin talks about how he raised himself, ate Wonder Bread and mac and cheese and had to hustle to pay the bills…he has become a caricature of himself.

And now that it has been found out the Palisades Fire was simply the reignition of a fire a few days before that was never put out, there are lawsuits galore. And Newsom is ducking it all, calling it “opportunistic”. OMG, what a dense, tone-deaf knucklehead he is.

  4. It makes complete sense that UCLA would want to play its home games at Sofi. The alumni are largely concentrated in the Valley and on the Westside. Maybe that explains the paltry crowds at the Rose Bowl?

Pasadena, along with Orange County has been a traditional USC stronghold. San Diego too, which makes it (for me anyway) a head scratcher why USC doesn’t play at least home game a year in San Diego.

UCLA’s lease agreement with the Rose Bowl does not include a buyout option; the only way to terminate the lease is if two consecutive home games cannot be played at the stadium. Information about USC’s contract with the Coliseum is not provided in the available snippets.

    Clause Details

    • No Buyout Option: UCLA’s lease agreement with the Rose Bowl does not include a buyout option.
    • Termination Conditions: UCLA can only terminate the lease if two consecutive home games cannot be played at the Rose Bowl.
    • Breach of Agreement: Any attempt to terminate the lease would be considered a breach, leading to potential monetary damages.

USC’s Contract with the ColiseumBuyout Clause Details

General Practice: Typically, such contracts may include provisions for termination, but specifics would need to be reviewed in the contract itself.
