Morning Buzz: NBC Analyst Fed Up With USC Fans

NBC sports rules analyst Terry McAulay has become exasperated with USC fans trying to say Puntergate did not violate the rules.

“I get a lot of hardcore fans twisting themselves in knots defending their team even though their team clearly and obviously violated the rules,” McAulay tweeted this morning. “But those trying to explain that USC was not a player in the position of a punter has been something to behold.

“At best they are being incredibly pedantic. At worst, intentionally daft.”

Wait till McAulay has to deal with the USC fans who defend Lincoln Riley.

And just to be clear, McAulay is saying USC should have penalized on the second punt, not the fake punt, like the Big Ten said Sunday.

  • I know this is really below the radar, but USC women’s soccer had a miserable season by its standards. The Trojans were 7-7-3 overall and barely qualified for the Big Ten Tournament as the lowest-seeded team. They lost in the first round to Northwestern.

Hardly the way you want to kick off playing in your new multi-million dollar stadium.

  6. Paul Sheinbaum says that multiple rumors suggest that Lincoln Riley is a candidate for the open Penn State job. Why would he take it. Evidently, Riley believes that USC is not a top tier program. He feels the program is irrelevant. Poor television ratings, half full home stadiums, a lack of interest on a national scale. And, he believes that even if the quality of play improved it would never reach the interest level of other programs because the Los Angeles fan base has so many other entertainment options. They just don’t care as much for college football. They have the Rams, Lakers, and Dodgers to root for.

  7. Penn State would be less forgiving to Riley…Happy Valley lives and dies with Penn State football.

    Franklin’s 3 seasons before this one were 34-8, plus going to the semis in the CFP last year.

    1. Agree 67. And it will be more difficult to recruit top talent to Penn State than USC. I believe USC will be rocking stadiums again with their recent recruits but it may take two to three years to reach the top tier level.

      3. I suspect that the endorsement and marketing aspect of a true NIL package is worth much more in California than other places. It may offset some of the tax differences. But maybe you can appease the recruits by telling them that they are giving their tax money to a state that paid 8.3 billion to illegal aliens last year. According to Cowardly Gabby taking other people’s money through forced taxation is compassionate. Afterall, people shouldn’t be allowed to choose their own charities. “Its our money, not yours.”

      4. Sorry the 8.3 billion was just to give illegals free health care. When you take into account food benefits, housing benefits, free public education, Covid unemployment benefits, ect. it is much more than 8.3 billion. Did you know that the state is in debt even though we have the highest income tax, property taxes, gas taxes, sale taxes, ect.

Right, illegals are not eligible for Federal benefits but they received them because Newsom overstated the amount the State paid for their eligible ER benefits and was given well over $300 million by the Feds. He is also under investigation by the Feds for another $500 million overpayment. And by the way, who cares if the illegals are being paid by the state or the Feds. They are being paid by tax dollars that should not be given to illegals except under emergency medical situations and yet they received full benefits in California that cover doctor visits, diagnostic tests, drugs, other treatment, ect. By what authority was Newsom given the right to defy Federal immigration law and other policies and render tens of billions of dollars in taxpayer money to illegals. Waiting for an answer.
