Did I expect USC to beat Oregon at Autzen Stadium?
Of course not. Lincoln Riley is now 6-13 against ranked teams at USC.
But here is what I did not expect: USC to average 1.9 yards per rush. Ja’Kobi Lane to chase an Oregon player to a wall behind the Oregon sideline for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Desman Stephens to hurdle the line on a field goal.
An offense that completely incapable of anything besides chucking the ball downfield and hoping for a pass interference penalty or miracle catch.
So much sideways behavior.
- The USC-UCLA game will kick off at 4:30 p.m. PT and be on NBC
The results were very predictable. Oregon was much more physical than us controlling the LOS both offensively and defensively eliminating our running game and making us 1 dimensional. The defense couldn’t tackle and we played as usual undisciplined

I said it last Saturday morning…players being an extension of their coach, in terms of toughness, does not bode well for USC.
I stand by that statement. Riley will always put a competitive team on the field. But we will never win a National Championship with him as our head coach.

Can’t win a college football championship with only being competitive. I totally agree with you. Since Pete Carroll left we have not had a physical team with a strong defense.

Finebaum has declared consistently ever since Riley was hired that this was a bad fit.

Scott’s running Lincoln commentary is so on the money that he’s assured of never ever EVER getting an interview with a USC coach or player. That’s unfortunate. Lincoln—and the team– would benefit from being pressed to come up with answers for why they do the things they do when they get within 15 yards of the goal line…or when they kickoff …. or try to stop a run up the middle or a pass to the sideline. [I don’t know if people were watching Lincoln act like a complete punk at his post game conference…but…when he was asked a question he didn’t like he growled at the questioner for being “stupid” and, then, said “why don’t you try it?!!!”].

btw, the reporter who was called ‘stupid’ asked a question which was inaudible on YouTube. Does anyone know what was asked? Riley went ballistic —the kind of ballistic coaches go when they know they’ve screwed the pooch.

At least he didn’t call the reporter a stupid SOB, as did our last President. Of course, Lincoln isn’t suffering from dementia the way Joe is, so he has a bit more control of his temper and omitted the SOB part.

So Cal –Hate to tell you this …but…at the end of the press conference Lincoln asked where John McKay was…and he concluded by saying “at least I ended Medicare.”

At least the Huskies are (thus far) doing what I had hoped they would do…

..btw, ’67 came within a couple of points of nailing the score [the one he said would happen if the Evil Twin USC showed up –which it did]….

Sadly, I know the evil twin far too well…what a crappy loss. Has anyone talked about the grossly obvious no PI call on Ja’Kobi in the end zone? A TD there, and if we had one more stop on Oregon, and USC wins…

There are so many what ifs to that game. What if we had our first string running back, center, safeties, different play caller inside the red zone, different coach representing us at post game presser etc, etc……

I have no idea what was up with the counter play on 3rd and 8 with so little time left. There is a thing called “The Two Minute Offense”, which you would think Lincoln would know well…
The no PI on Ja’Kobi was a huge mistake IMO. The ref totally swallowed his whistle, the quack defender hit Ja’Kobi with his shoulder before the ball arrived. That was an easy and obvious PI call.

100%! [Don’t you find it funny that the dip sh*t announcers can slow-mo the play, clearly show the very early contact …and… not call bullsh*t]???

Phuck –I hate agreeing with you.
However…
Lincoln deserves every word Scott is saving up for him. [And… Lincoln should be made to apologize to that reporter he excoriated. Riley’s dumb remark about “you try it (coaching)!” should have elicited, “I know how to do my job….your job is keeping your players from walking off the field to fight Oregon’s bench or slamming into a guy returning a kick after he signals”].
