If It’s Friday, It’s Time For A USC Notes Column

I’d like to know what Jen Cohen thinks of the idea that Lincoln Riley’s representation has been floating his name for jobs, as Andy Staples reported earlier this week.

My guess is that she would be pleased because it would allow her to go after her own coach, namely Kalen DeBoer of Alabama. And if DeBoer said no, Cohen would still be happy to hire her own coach.

Some people are saying “Why would Lincoln Riley leave USC?”

They don’t realize when Cohen hired general manager Chad “Charmin” Bowden, it meant Riley could no longer run his own program.

  • And now for some history:
  • USC was ranked No. 1 in the nation when it went to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech. These type of matchups are obsolete today, of course, in the Riley Era. That’s Manfred Moore carrying the ball.
  • USC was ranked No. 6 in the nation in 1973 when it played Oregon at the Coliseum. The Trojans won, 31-6. That’s wide receiver J.K. McKay.
  • Here’s a publicity shot of Frank Gifford and actress Lori Nelson for the 1953 movie, “All American.” It was Gifford’s first credited role. He filmed some of his scenes at USC.
  • With USC and UCLA hoping to move to SoFi stadium for the 2028 season, let’s remember how the Coliseum had the Dodgers, USC, UCLA, Rams an Chargers in 1960.

        Lincoln is hoping Jen is as dumb as Swann was, when he gave Clay an extension in Feb 2018 when Clay had no other suitors!!

        Lincoln: “I only have 6 more years left on my contract. You’d better arrange to keep me longer than that, while you can!!” LOL

      7. I haven’t been able to stop crying…my heart bleeds for the poor guy. All he got out of life was being the Head Coach of one of the most prestigious universities in the country, a great team put together by Harbaugh and millions of dollars.

  5. I don’t see Michigan paying Riley’s $50 million buyout, then giving him a minimum 6 year, $70 million contract. And I hope Jen doesn’t improve his package in any event.

      2. Totally agree about old bowl system — play 10 game schedule then on to expanded playoffs —but, for old times sake, hope Maiava plays [he won’t get hurt] and we win TEN …so I can say that number every time my bruin-loving in-laws walk in the door….

  8. wolfman, i set my alarm to get up at dawn to read your reaction to the news that Southern Cal is serving food to students laden with mold and a constellation of disgusting vermin (worms, stink bugs and maggots)….Oh, MERCY NURSE!!!!

    when SC’s Dean Wormer ordered the kitchen staff to serve the students some good GRUB, who knew this is what he meant??

    Southern Cal: come for the prison walls around campus, STAY for the food!!!

      Maggots and stink bugs found in USC dining halls! USC is implementing additional food safety measures after students shared videos showing maggots and other bugs they say were found in meals at campus dining halls.

      USC’s Annenberg Media reported Tuesday that insects were discovered on multiple occasions over the past three months. “Video and photos taken by students, shared with and independently verified by Annenberg Media, show insects resembling maggots and stink bugs in food they had been eating at Everybody’s Kitchen and the USC Village dining hall,” the student-run news organization posted on Instagram, along with clips of the student videos.

      “Other videos posted to social media show moldy bread and flies on pieces of lunch meat.”

      One student photographed a worm-like bug on her friend’s dish. “She had eaten a couple of pieces, and went, ‘Oh my God,’ and then we all looked in, and there was a worm,” freshman Ilana Jacobson told Annenberg Media. “Then she freaked out, and she didn’t eat there for two weeks.”

      DON: How did USC receive A health inspection ratings while this was going on?
