USC Notes: A Rare Loss That Hurts

USC has lost 15 players to the transfer portal but other than depth purposes, the Trojans can afford to lose most of them.

However, there is no way USC wanted to lose defensive tackle Devan Thompkins. His numbers improved each of the past three seasons and he put up the best numbers of any defensive tackle.

You can say he and other players simply leave for more money. But as Thompkins enters his final season, you have to think he would really be focused on his NFL prospects.

Given that, what does it say about defensive line coach Eric Henderson that Thompkins left? I thought Dawg Work was the be-all-and-end-all for defensive linemen. Although Bear Alexander clearly got better at Oregon.

The bottom line is people need to ask questions. And there are very few willing to do that with USC, whether it’s the fan base or friendly media.

  • Former USC tailback Raleek Brown, who was a first-team All-Big 12 selection at Arizona State, has decided to enter the NFL Draft.

  1. I question dawg work too. Keyshawn Silver was suppose to be a big time player out of the SEC. And the Spring and Fall reports were that Thompkins and Cam Crawford had taken big steps and would be a force in the 2025 season. This position group was a huge disappointment. Illinois and ND were pushing the interior defense line back 5 yards or more and we did not get the pass rush we needed against good teams. If there is not a big jump in production, let Henny and Nua go. Henderson can recruit but that only works if you have a reputation for developing players. The “I helped develop Aaron Donald” schtick is fading fast.
