USC Notes: Oregon In Mix For Transfer

Oregon is a possible destination for USC defensive tackle Devan Thompkins. Maybe he saw how Bear Alexander got better.

Some have derided the small crowd at the Galen Center last night. Officially, it was 3,030. This is finals week at USC and the game started at 6 p.m.

But the bigger issue is if the crowds are a problem, play a better schedule. The women’s basketbal does it.

  1. Oregon writes the biggest NIL checks of any school.

Another issue with men’s basketball is the enormous turnover on the roster. Just as you get to know the team, there are five new starters on the floor.

      1. College football really opened Pandora’s box with these NIL wars. Really, why should any program pay these untested high school players millions of dollars a year to come to their school. It is truly insane. If a recruit is a highest bidder guy who doesn’t fully appreciate the academic advantages at SC, the alumni contacts, the traditions, ect., cut him loose. Concentrate on local players who view SC as their dream school. And get top coaches who can develop them. Let the prima donnas like Bear Alexander go to Oregon.

      2. KAM: Academic advantages? Alumni connections? Why would any high school blue chip recruit care about that? These aren’t students. Do you think Caleb Williams graduated from USC? He used the school for two years and lived the life of the rich and famous, hobnobbing with celebrities at the Cannes Film Festival. He didn’t live in a cramped dorm room with a student, eating dorm food. He didn’t need connections to get drafted in the NFL.

DON: These are millionaire mercenaries who go from team to team looking for the best deal. They have no allegiance to USC. Those days are over. Their only allegiance is to the Almighty Dollar. The sooner you realize that the sooner you won’t be disappointed when they leave us for a better deal somewhere else.

      1. KAM: “Husan has not fully bought into staying at USC just yet, and is exploring the transfer portal. If he were to enter the portal, Husan would be one of the most sought after signal-callers, even among a group like Florida’s DJ Lagway, Arizona State’s Sam Leavitt and Nebraska’s Dylan Raiola.”

    1. KAM: December 19 – TCU quarterback Josh Hoover announced Thursday that he will forgo playing in the Alamo Bowl and enter the transfer portal when it opens Jan. 2.

“I’m so thankful to have had the opportunity to represent TCU for an incredible 4 years,” Hoover wrote in a statement on social media. “It has been a dream to be able to play and graduate from this university and I will forever be grateful for that.

.”.. I’ve prayed about this and decided that I will be entering the transfer portal.”

DON: Hoover has been the Horned Frogs’ starting quarterback since taking over in 2023, midway through his redshirt freshman campaign. He ranks third in TCU program history with 9,629 career passing yards, 71 touchdown passes and 771 completions.

In 12 games in 2025, Hoover threw for 3,472 yards and 29 touchdowns, along with a Big 12-leading 13 interceptions.

TCU (8-4) faces No. 16 Southern California in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 30.

  3. Based only on the comments you shared, Sparrow Calypso comes across very differently from Gabby and a few of the other loud personalities on the board.Sparrow Calypso’s Commenter Profile

    • Measured and Calm
Sparrow consistently posts in a calm, even-tempered tone, avoiding insults and escalation. Even when surrounded by trolling or chaos, Sparrow stays composed and conversational.
    • Dual-Voice Gimmick (KAM / DON)
Sparrow often writes in a two-voice format (“KAM:” and “DON:”), which seems intentional and playful rather than hostile. It reads like a light role-play or internal dialogue used to explore both sides of an idea.
    • Optimistic USC Fan
Sparrow expresses optimism about USC football, especially regarding the future and incoming talent. They push back—politely—against nonstop negativity:
    • Believes coaches shouldn’t take all the blame
    • Emphasizes player responsibility and development
    • Willing to “wait and see” rather than panic
    • Non-Confrontational by Nature
While Sparrow does get targeted or quoted by Gabby, they don’t retaliate with personal attacks. They stay on topic and don’t take bait, which makes the contrast sharper.
    • Light Humor, Not Mockery
Their jokes (e.g., Christmas carol humor, Jedi/psychic joke) are gentle and dad-joke-ish, not cruel or aimed at humiliating others.
    • Community-Oriented
      Sparrow sounds like someone who:
    • Reads the board regularly
    • Wants constructive discussion
    • Is slightly exasperated by the toxicity but not cynical about it

    Overall Impression

    Sparrow Calypso appears to be:

    • A reasonable, optimistic long-time fan
    • Someone trying to lower the temperature of the comment section
    • A contrast figure to the more aggressive, ideological, or trollish posters
    • Mildly quirky (via the KAM/DON format) but not disruptive

If Gabby represents chaos and provocation, Sparrow Calypso represents patience, balance, and goodwill—even if that makes them an easy target in a rowdy comment section.

If you want, I can also:

    • Compare Sparrow vs Gabby directly
    • Rank commenters by tone (serious, troll, analyst, comic relief)
    • Translate the comment section into “who is who” in plain English

  4. Based only on the comments you provided (and not on anything outside that thread), the worst commenter in terms of disruptiveness and toxicity is Gabby. Why Gabby stands out as the worst commenter

This isn’t about politics or opinions—it’s about behavior in the comment section:

    • Persistent personal attacks
Gabby repeatedly targets other commenters by name (“Cowardly Gabby,” “disgusting pervert,” etc.) rather than addressing ideas.
    • Provocation over discussion
Many of Gabby’s posts appear designed to inflame, derail, or bait reactions rather than contribute to the USC/Lynn discussion.
    • Escalation into offensive territory
Several comments move beyond trash talk into religious, ethnic, or dehumanizing insults, which is where moderation lines usually get crossed.
    • Thread hijacking
Gabby frequently pulls the conversation away from football into culture-war arguments, causing long side fights unrelated to the post.
    • Volume + repetition
The sheer number of Gabby’s comments—often repeating the same antagonistic tone—amplifies the disruption.

    Comparison to others

    • Sparrow Calypso: Calm, optimistic, non-confrontational
    • Plow Horse / So Cal / Michael Guarino: Snarky or sharp at times, but still mostly engaged with football
    • George Tirebiter: Loud and goofy, but not malicious
    • Automod / Moderator: Signals things got out of hand—usually because of the chaos Gabby-level behavior creates

    Bottom line

If you were ranking commenters by damage to discussion quality, Gabby would be at the bottom because:

    • She adds the most heat
    • The least substance
    • And triggers the most derailment

If you want, I can also rank:

    • Most reasonable commenter
    • Most entertaining
    • Biggest troll vs biggest try-hard
    • Or explain why boards like this almost always develop a “Gabby-type” personality

  9. KAM: Fresh off the case of George Bailey, Clarence the Angel embarked on a new mission over the weekend to show California Governor Gavin Newsom what California could be like if he’d never been born.

“I just picked him up and flew him over to Florida,” Clarence explained. “Easiest job I’ve ever had.”

Earlier in the day, residents had observed Newsom wandering the streets of San Francisco, muttering to himself about the futility of life. “I was supposed to be President! I was supposed to be the guy!” cried out Newsom. “Instead, I’ve spent my days toiling away in California — and now, looking around at this crummy little state, what do I have to show for it? What has it all been for??”

It was then that Clarence the Angel descended to Gavin Newsom’s side, arriving to visibly show Newsom the fruits of his life’s work. “You’re going to be given a great gift, Gavin – to see what California would look like if you had never been born!” exclaimed Clarence as they arrived in Florida. “Look at the unvarnished beauty of nature, walk the streets free of feces, see the livelihoods unruined, hear the laughter of children allowed to live! You see Gavin, each man’s life touches so many other lives. See all the wonderful things that don’t exist because of you? It really is a wonderful life here in Florida, isn’t it?”

    DON: Cowardly Gabby hardest hit!
