USC Sunday Buzz: One Possible Reason For Defensive Delay

It sounds like Pete Kwiatkowski is currently the frontrunner to become USC’s defensive coordinator.

So why hasn’t it happened yet?

It could be a question of whether he gets to bring any of his own people with him. USC still has all its defensive assistant other than D’Anton Lynn. So someone would need to leave or be fired for Kwiatkowski to bring any assistants.

It will be interesting to see if Eric Henderson wants to stay if he does not get promoted to defensive coordinator.

  • USC lost to UCLA, 80-46, in women’s basketball Saturday night at Pauley Pavilion. You want a comment? USC had a lousy transfer portal. That’s what cost them last night.
  • I could write so much about this disappointing AI slop video. Most of the people look nothing like the real person, especially John McKay. Somehow, former player Lee Webb has become LenDale White

Most of the players — including Marcus Allen! — are wearing incorrect jerseys. It shows such a lack of care for USC’s rich history. And, of course, some fans liked it.

  1. KAM: Riley Coyote hasn’t got time for the Payne. Within days of losing to lowly TCU in the Alamo Bowl, USC has already been gashed by the college football transfer portal.

DON: Riley Coyote suffered yet another loss, with former four-star offensive line recruit Alex Payne leaving Los Angeles. Payne, one of the top offensive tackles in the class of 2025, entered the portal on Saturday, 247 Sports’ Chris Hummer reported. The true freshman only appeared in one game in 2025, per Hummer, giving him up to four years of eligibility left in the tank.

  2. It is a good idea, but:

Too much time spent on the old days, with too many white guys wearing hats

No Mike Garrett Heisman? Fix that

If you want OJ in it (and think seriously if you do), then show his 64 yard run against the gutties.

No Reggie Bush 2005 Heisman? And show Reggie on one of his runs vs. Fresno State or the Gutties. No better recruiting footage than that.

No Caleb Williams Heisman? And no Caleb Williams highlights? What gives there? Show Caleb’s run vs. the domers.

Take out the “The new era with Lincoln Riley”. No bueno on that.

      1. …and…I’m not too crazy about John McKay being played by the Ralph Bellamy millionaire character from “Trading Places”…..

    1. A Heisman winner not in it?! LOL

Las Vegas incident was stupid, but not worthy of him being left out. Total joke that he did more time than the guy who actually had the gun.

      1. LOL!! You should have read online comments whenever there was a story about him. I am FAR from being alone. Millions of people feel the same way.

Same as our current President. You may not like him, but…

      2. KAM: In the mid-1990s, following O.J. Simpson’s acquittal, approximately 80% of Black Americans believed he was innocent.

        DON: Recent Polling Data

57% of Black respondents now think Simpson is guilty.

      3. Should have included…

        C) Doesn’t mean that those 57% believe society should treat him as if were guilty.

      4. I’ve never commented on whether or not he did it, other than that IF he did, he’s paying for it now.

All I’ve stated is that the only people who mattered said he didn’t. Amazing how many people don’t get that.

      5. I see your reply …and I raise you:

Even If O. J. DID do it…. if he made peace with his conscience [which I believe he did do in those final years], he might not be paying for anything now….

      6. KAM: There is no evidence OJ ever had a conscience. According to TMZ, before OJ passed away, he spoke to many close friends and family members in his last days, but he did not make any confessions about the murders. A source said that he did not speak about Nicole or Ron or made any “confession” before he died

They said: “Unless being thirsty and asking for water is a confession … or wanting to watch the golf tournament. Nothing about the LA thing came up or was even thought about.”

DON: He was great for us, and the Bills as the greatest college and NFL combined running back of all time… but that was it. He was an awful human being. And his career success won’t help him now.

  3. I don’t mind the Athletic Department conducting a double secret search for the new Defensive Coordinator……but…. if no one is in place in the next 7- 10 days something is real wrong….

    1. If I were Lincoln …and I fully understood the depth of disappointment fans felt for me and my program after the Alamo Bowl [which it would be impossible not to] ….. I wouldn’t want to begin what could very easily be my final year as USC Head Coach with anything less than the best, most charismatic up & coming defensive coordinator in the country [even if I had to underwrite half his salary myself]…

      1. KAM: How would Riley Coyote understand the depth of disappointment SC fans are feeling about his 4 years at USC when he makes sure he has no contact with any alumni, students or fans…

DON: And he and the missus lives in a high security $18 million walled estate in PV?

  4. There’s Pete Kwiatkowski latest rumor has him signing with Stanford – I’d say he was either looking for an easy no expectation outcome and I’d also say USC dodged a bullet. Now there’s Gary Patterson….

      1. Mike it is very difficult to post here – Happy New Year – BTW ATL Falcons fired their head coach Raheem Morris and GM Terry Fontenot – I gather Pete Carroll is on thin ice

  5. Kiwatkoski wanted to get rid of all defensive assistants. Southern players (specifically Stewart and Fountain) demanded Henderson get the job. Pure comedy. Co-Defense coordinator with Belk or Ryan and another assistant hire coming. This will probably get Riley fired and Saban back to coach USC.
