USC Sunday Buzz: Where Are The Trojans?

So Stanford interviewed Kris Richard in the middle of the week and a day later Coach Tavita Pritchard offered him the job.

What’s USC’s excuse for taking so long?

The fact Stanford hired Richard highlights another issue: There are no Trojans on the coaching staff.

Mike Williams works as a support staffer but he is not one of the position coaches.

This is one reason there is so little attention paid to traditions or rivalries within the football program. There is no one to talk to the players or set Lincoln Riley straight.

  • The word in coaching circles is that Pete Kwiatkowski did not impress Stanford during the interview process. Is that what happened at USC too?

  1. wolfman, you’re failing to mention why Tavita Prichard’s name is so familiar! take a knee, wolfman, i got this!! (i know Sunday Fundays are always pretty slow for you with your massive hangover and knowing you still have to find a diplomatic way to get the shacked-up cheerleaders to clear out by noon!)

Prichard was a goggle-eyed back-up who never started a game and had thrown only 3 passes in mop up duty! yet, he swaggered into the Mausoleum as a 41pt dog and owned the place!! tossed the game winner with time running out on a 4th down play!! knocked the #2 trOXans outta the national champeenship picture, one year after Vince Young humiliated SC in the Rose Bowl for the Natty!!

so queeeer the wolfman missed this historical tidbit, i guess some wounds take longer to heal than others.

    1. He didn’t miss anything. Us old farts remember that all too well.

Trojans or fans thereof who are under 30 might not. But we do and actually WISH we could forget.

But you’re right. It was a very notable performance and will always be a feather in the cap of Stanford fans.

      1. Chuck also has a selective memory, including:

USC 50, Gutties 0, November 26, 2011 – Little Matt Barkley throws for 6 TDs and 400 plus yards! Kiffin never lets his foot off the gas!

USC 66, Gutties 19, December 5, 2005 – not even the so-called great Marcedes Lewis and Maurice Jones-Drew could keep the gutties from this embarrassment!

Reggie and LenDale combine for 415 yards rushing! About twice the entire ucla team’s total offense!

        Ouch!

      2. I didn’t enjoy that 50-0 as much as most. Stafford reminded me of that last night. Down with 2:30 to go, he said to his teammates, “Let’s go rip their hearts out!”

It’s so much more enjoyable when the other team & fans think they have it in the bag and you rip their hearts heart in the last minute.

  2. DC’s have to wonder who their boss is.

Do you work for Riley or Chad?

Does the DC actually run the D staff or is Chad/Jen going to go over their head in staffing.

Everything about SC is so dysfunctional.

Honestly, why would any top candidate want to involve himself in this mess?

I still think the best thing is go after a top candidate and promise him HC in waiting.

Let Riley know he can be replaced at any time with perfect continuity.

  3. Pete K already the job. Just waiting for the transfer portal to expire on 1/16/26 before LR announces it. If they intended to give the job to Coach Henny they would have already announced it.

And if a coach has 20 years of positive experience at the highest levels, Washington, Texas, ect., the interview shouldn’t mean a lot.

  4. MICHAEL HARPER HAD THE BALL TUCKED INSIDE HIS UNIFORM. THATS WHY IT DIDNT SHOW IN THE PIX. THE BALL ON THE TWO YARD LINE WAS TOSSED THERE BY THE IRISH TO CLOUD THE ISSUE !!

  5. I’d like to launch a new NFL show titled “Spot the Fix!” Ex- NFL greats —coaches & players—-call in to report kickers departing from their usual stance, receivers missing balls they have easily caught in the past, coaches repeatedly calling plays that have no chance.

[Wish my new show aired during the Eagles game today].
