USC Notes: Where Are The Caleb Williams Critics?

I will say it again: Why does anyone listen to this guy?

  • USC had a one-point victory (men’s basketball) and one-point loss (women’s basketball) at Minnesota this weekend. The takeaway continues to be that USC women’s basketball had a terrible transfer portal.

It’s now a question whether they make the NCAA Tournament.

      1. I only listened to him a few times. The guy reminded me of the football equivalent to Morton Downey Jr. who had a trash television show in the 1980s. Downey talked about political issues but that was only an entrance into insulting politicians and others. It was about crass entertainment, not politics. For example, he said “why am I opposed to women in the military? Because I don’t want the only thing standing between me and a Soviet tank to be wearing a D cup.”

      2. Morton Downey, Jr. Wow, that is a blast from the past. Not everything was better back in the day, and that is exhibit 1.

BTW, I pity Morton Downey, Sr. …

      3. Do you remember when Downey said he was accosted by Nazis in the airport bathroom and they carved a swastika on his chest …but it turned out he did it to himself?

[btw, I enjoyed it when Gary Shandling did a monolog where he said that Robert Downey Jr had been “arrested while drugged and naked in his neighbor’s bedroom …and claimed he was doing research for a movie….. “The Robert Downey Jr Story”]

      4. Rookie mistake— I guess I shoulda realized that Robert Downey Junior’s dad was Robert Downey Senior, not Morton Downey…..

    1. “So —while your wife was pregnant you got her mom drunk and bedded her ….how do you think she’s gonna feel when we bring her out here and let her know how deeply you betrayed her?”

  1. I remember when Joe Namath did commercials dressed in panty hose. People mocked him but nobody thought he was gay. Joe had a dance card like few others. It was a way for Joe to increase his profile and ultimately make more money. I think Caleb was doing the same thing with the painted fingernails. And I think coach Jason Brown understood that fact. Seriously, you aren’t going to draft a guy who has a generational arm and legs and won the Heisman trophy because he painted his fingernails!

      1. Caleb was Caleb in the 4th quarter. What a great game to watch, brought back USC memories of when he was here. Now that he is gone, It is interesting that he was quoted as saying he would have followed Riley anywhere and would have walked on if he had to.

Now, that is a surprise to begin the workweek

  3. Caleb finally has a coach who believes in him and a better than average offensive line. I hope that he gets either Lemon or Lane in the draft for next year. Riley may have his problems with defense and special team play, but he must be given credit for developing QB’s, right Scott. Great to see both Darnold and Williams in the NFC semis. Hope that they both get their teams to the finals so one can be in the Super Bowl.

Is Scott in the running to be President of USC? Sounds, as usual, like he feels that he knows more than any of the candidates with administrative experience and a doctorate.

We have our QB for next year, so, Raiola and the others can go wherever they want to go. Look what happened to Oregon with their number one draft pick this year. And, look what happened to Raiola when we played Nebraska. I wish Longstreet well, but he would have a much better career staying with Riley for two more years. What will Scott say when USC has a ten win season next year and Maiava is in New York in December with his name called for the Heisman? Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

P.S. Marcus Freeman is still considering going to an NFL team because he knows that ND can’t win a national championship unless they join the Big Ten and have to play not only USC but all the other heavy weights in the conference every year.
