I’ve heard Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer advised a coach against taking the USC defensive coordinator position.
His reasoning? That it might be a one-year job if Lincoln Riley does not make the College Football Playoff.
- Chad “Charmin” Bowden attended the USC women’s basketball game Sunday. He still has not been bothered to comment on the demise of the USC-Notre Dame series, which is amazing since he came to USC from South Bend.
- Former USC baseball/football star Don Buford celebrates his 89th birthday today. He was a tailback for the Trojans and had a successful baseball career, winning a College World Series, hitting a home run off Tom Seaver in the 1969 World Series and won the 1970 World Series with the Baltimore Orioles.
During the 1958 football season, Buford led the Trojans in rushing (306 yards), interceptions, and punt returns.

Scott, the ND story is history…move on. ND is the spoiled brat of college football, and couldn’t compromise to keep the series in play. That’s it! The rushing total for Don Buford in 1958 shows you how pathetic USC football was in 1957 and 1958 after the ticket scalping penalties. The USC vs. ND game in 1959 was played in South Bend in November in freezing weather. Shortly thereafter, the game in South Bend was changed to October with the game in Los Angeles staying in November. Dan, Class of 1962

Exactly. And even October weather in the midwest can be awful.

thanks for the sweeet scooops, wolfman, you got more sweet scoops than the Good Humor man!! it appears the new SC policy is, dodge the good teams and pray for a miracle come time for the big games! i suppose when Chesney and Uncle Nico pull an upset this year, SC will try to end this rivalry game too??
finally, one bit of advice to the nattering nabobs who are trying to silence the wolfman: the wolfman is like the Terminator, he can’t be bargained with, he doesn’t feel pity remorse or fear, and above all he will not stop…ever.

Chuck, Chuck Bo Buck, my little friend, here is the reality:
“Hasta La Vista” is what all gutty coaches is the last thing all gutty coaches hear before getting kick to the curb!
A walk down memory lane: Bob Toledo, Karl Dorrell, Jim Harrick, Rick Neuheisel, Jim Mora, chocolate Chip Kelly, DeShaun “1.4 seasons” Foster, Steve Lavin (who by the way is a very nice gent, he let my son and I watch practice one day that otherwise was closed), Ben Howland (whom ucla should have kept), Steve Alford.
No wonder the ucla athletics dept has about a $150 million deficit, they are still buying out all those golden parachutes.
Can you even imagine if Scott was a ucla alum?

Charlie’s twin thesis:
“USC’s policy is to duck the good teams…”
“USC can’t get to playoffs with their tough schedule…”
[Pick One]?
btw, Scott isn’t The Terminator: The Terminator CAN be stopped…

Ironic that Kalen DeBoer would say that Riley only has one more year. He is in the same position at Alabama. I wonder if DeBoer has been talking with Jen Cohen about Riley’s future. Cohen hired DeBoer and he would be a likely replacement for Riley.

KAM: Compare and contrast USC’s schedule with Bama’s.
Alabama’s 2026 football schedule includes home games against East Carolina, Florida State, South Carolina, Georgia, Texas A&M, Chattanooga, and Auburn, with road games at Kentucky, Mississippi State, Tennessee, LSU, and Vanderbilt. The season opener is on September 5 against East Carolina.
DON: Who has the better path to the playoffs?

Actually, it looks like a toss up.

Thanks Michael for always telling it like it really is. ND, Alabama, Georgia all play the easiest schedule possible with one or two tough games. The exception this year is Ohio State that plays a tough Big Ten schedule and Texas. DeBoer is probably on a hotter hot seat than LR because he probably has a buyout in his contract. If he does well this year, Bama will keep him, and if he does poorly we don’t want him. USC has a tougher schedule than Bama. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962
