USC Notes: Lincoln Riley Says Future Is Now; What’s New?

Lincoln Riley reiterated Monday that expectations are high every year at USC.

“There’s pressure to win championships here every single year,” Riley said. “You’re in a blue blood program. Even the first year when we didn’t do it, even though we came back and won a bunch more games than they did and probably surpassed a lot of people’s expectations, like, that’s just — you start every year with the goal of doing that.”

This is really just boilerplate, meaningless words strung together. Riley says something like this all the time.

But when he has done anything to suggest he can win a championship? USC was closer to winning one in Year 1 than Year 4. That’s the key problem.

And even with the No. 1-ranked recruiting class coming, the talk is about USC making the College Football Playoff, not winning it.

  • USC soccer player Cassie Bibby, the daughter of former USC basketball coach Henry Bibby, has transferred to Purdue. Interestingly, three other USC players (Jaiden Anderson, Tanna Schornstein and Phoebe Carver) also transferred to Purdue.

  1. Scott, it would help to have some context for the soccer transfers. Did they get a better NIL offer? Did the coach tell them that they wouldn’t be starters this year? Does the coach have better players coming from high school recruits or transfers? And, is there a connection between the Purdue coach and the players? Do some research, don’t just imply what is happening. This is the new age of college sports. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

  3. Notice Riley said, “You’re in a blue blood program” instead of “WE’RE.” It’s like he still hasn’t bought in to being a Trojan. GO BACK TO TEXAS.
