USC Saturday Buzz: Would Lincoln Riley Want A Legend?

There’s been some speculation that USC should hire Ed Orgeron as defensive line coach.

This happens whenever USC has an opening for a d-line coach.

I don’t see it happening because Orgeron and Lincoln Riley are like oil and water.

Orgeron wants to play physical football. Does Riley? Orgeron would want demanding, physical practices? Would Riley?

Also: I’m not sure Riley ever got over the 63-28 shellacking LSU put on Oklahoma at the College Football Playoff semifinal game in 2019. It was the beginning of the end for Riley at Oklahoma.

Also Part II: How weird would it be for Riley to have an assistant coach who is way more popular with USC fans than he is?

  1. Zarnell Fitch, the former Texas Tech defensive line coach, seems like the obvious choice. He was the assistant coach of the year last year. He played for Patterson at TCU and coached with him for six years. If selected, he may be able to bring the number one rated 2017 d lineman with him.

  2. Fitch sounds like the perfect fit. Four new coaches on defense and all aligned with Patterson sounds good to me. Did he also work with the LB/Special Teams coach from Nebraska as well? These hires make me hopeful for next year. Hope is the first stage in success. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

“What are you talkin’ about?” Red asked.

      “Hope.” Andy replied.

“Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane.”

Andy: “Hope is a good thing. Maybe the best thing.”

  3. Ed O’s got a lot more rings than Riley. Ed O can show up to the interview with rings from Miami, SC and LSU. ‘Where are you rings Riley?’

Ed O actually understand Trojan tradition. Goux took O under his wing and schooled him on all things Trojan.

Hell, maybe Ed O can literally smack some sense into Riley.

Give Ed O a bonus for a Riley beat down each time Riley mentions ‘turning the corner.’

With Ed O under Pete, practices were more physical than actual games.
