USC Super Bowl Sunday Buzz: A Telling Story On Sam Darnold

Sam Darnold is going to wear No. 14 with the Seattle Seahawks, the number he has worn since USC.

But unlike many players, Darnold did not demand to wear No. 14.

When he arrived at USC, he did not make any demands for a jersey number, which is different than many recruits. Just think of all the numbers USC has worn by two players because everyone wants specific numbers, especially single digits.

Darnold said he thought about taking No. 15, the number his grandfather, Dick Hammer, wore for the USC basketball team. He also thought about No. 18, which was his number at San Clemente. But he ultimately just took No. 14 because it was issued to him and he did not really care about it.

I remember telling him at USC once, “if you went to Mater Dei or Long Beach Poly, you would have demanded a number.”

“No comment,” Darnold said with a good-natured tone.

  1. None of this surprises anyone. All you need to do is watch his reactions to anything that goes really well or really poorly. He celebrates neither of them all that much, because he knows how quickly it can change.

    He is a class act.

  2. Think how close Mark Sanchez had the NYJ not once but twice and the jokes the pathetic ‘hate all things LA’ made of him and turned their same ire (not all in fairness) on Sam. It matters not – he went into another wasteland in Charlotte-NC and then a year to see how a realm professional franchise is run in SFO…onto MN where he gave them hope in 2024 only tom flame out horribly in the playoffs and then released by a general manager that was just sacked himself early last week.

In bound to SEA and matching last season 14 wins with MN with SEA. So many have been waxing on how the Rams lost a game they should have won based on Stafford 3 tds…no picks and scrambling total – but they fail to recognize the foolish move by the CHI Bears head coach Ben Johnson not going for the final thrust with the knife declining a 2 point conversion when Williams had just stunned and demoralized the Rams. The apologists ignore the destructive taunting penalty by SEA’s Woolen in pointing to Stafford’s stats – winners win and the Rams escaped in Charlotte the week before the Bear escape.

    Go SEA – fight on!

  3. Montana just shown in a Fan Duels commercial with the music from “Rudy” in it, after all the badmouthing he did about the dramatic license that was taken in the movie.

    Douchebag.
