USC Saturday Buzz: Beware Football Titles

USC promoted tight ends coach Chad Savage to pass game coordinator.

These extra titles happen everywhere these days to give coaches an extra title even if they don’t necessarily mean more responsibility.

Does anyone think Lincoln Riley — who only really cares about his passing offense — is going to let someone else handle important facets of the passing game?

Savage also coaches the “interior receivers” so some people are crediting him with Makai Lemon winning the Biletnikoff Award. Simply . . . amazing.

Eric Henderson, who left for the Commanders, was “co-defensive coordinator” when D’Anton Lynn was at USC. If he really did that, wouldn’t it have been logical to promote him when Lynn left because he shared the responsibilities?

  • USC won its first game at the new Dedeaux Field on Friday night, 3-1, over Pepperdine before an announced crowd of 1,598.

  1. When Ralph Kramden and Ed Norton accidently wandered into a private club one of the members said “you guys must be new. What type of business are you in? Ralph – “I’m in transportation.” Ed – “Waste Management.” Right up there with “passing game coordinator.”

  2. Savage did a great job getting the tight ends involved in the passing game. Luke McKree is going to be drafted by an NFL team, and he got two of the top TE recruits in the country to come to USC. Riley of course will still be involved in the passing game overall so Savage is a plus. Last year, the offense was pretty well balanced scheme wise; Riley needs to clean up his red zone play calling. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962
