USC Morning Buzz: That Familiar Feeling With Basketball Is Back

USC isn’t going to beat UCLA when Alijah Arenas goes 2 for 8 with five turnovers. Or forwards Ezra Ausar and Jacob Cofie are a combined 4 for 16.

Maybe it was unrealistic to expect USC to beat UCLA at Pauley Pavilion but it was necesary with home losses to Northwestern and Oregon.

The problem is when you bring in an entire new team every season, you run the risk of having chemistry issues.

I don’t think even Eric Musselman would say he’s done a great job this season although he would cite injuries as an excuse. He said after the UCLA loss that his wife told him no team can afford to lose a 20-point-per-game scorer, referring to Rodney Rice.

Whatever the reasons, this season is getting that familiar unfullfilling tone for USC basketball fans. At this point, it needs home wins against Nebraska and UCLA plus a helluva run in the Big Ten Tournament.

For all the promotions Musselman did for USC football in the fall, maybe Lincoln Riley should do something to promote basketball. Right!!

  2. Musselman is full of excuses….. his team looks like he picked up 5-7 guys from a playground in Venice two hours before the game, and looked as bad as any USC team I have seen in 50 years playing UCLA at Pauley, Sports Arena, or Galen.

That was not the first time this season that the team has looked poorly coached- lots of turnovers, huge holes on defense, poor substitution patterns, and no offensive chemistry with lots of one on one show Hollywood and the NBA scouts I can play mentality.

Musselman thinks he is a good basketball coach most experts don’t think so. I say by the end of next season he will be gone there is no way you can recruit 10 new players very year throw them out on the floor with very little coaching, and expect to build a program and win games every year.

USC Basketball is again in alot of trouble. Obviously, Musselman was not the right choice. If I am the Athletic Director you tell Musselman stop making excuses, make it to the NCAA Tournament next year which is your 3rd or we will have to cut your 5 million salary, and coaching staff because the university is in a deficit, and basketball attendance and revenue keep going down further and further because we are not winning.

Eric Musselman is Kevin O’Neil the Second…5 million dollar coach with no results in year 2 probably the same in year 3.
