Don’t Believe Spring Scrimmage Spin

So one of the excuses Lincoln Riley has given about canceling the spring game is it causes him to eliminate a regular practice for the game and another practice to prepare for the scrimmage.

Here’s some things to consider: Riley usually has the team scrimmage during other parts of spring practice. How come those scrimmages are not a problem?

USC and other schools hold closed scrimmages throughout spring practice and then traditionally hold a public scrimmage at the end. So why is it suddenly a problem now?

Also, a lot of fans would be happy with a public practice at the Coliseum that had “some” scrimmaging. That would not really disrupt Riley’s precious plans. Clay Helton held a practice at the Coliseum when he didn’t want to scrimmage and it was open to the public.

And let’s remember this: Curt Cignetti, who is 10 times the coach Riley is, said he has never had more than 13 spring practices as a coach. And he is holding a spring game. But what does he know?

  1. Scott, since when did you become a Clay Helton fan. So, now you want LR to be like CH. That is insanity. Please make your points logically, or are you disappointed that CH is no longer the USC coach. I would assume that like the rest of USC fandom, you were excited to see CH let go and LR take his place. Are you now going to rewrite history? Wait for the product in the Fall until you critique the decisions that LR makes to prepare HIS team. I miss Dan Weber and his insightful analysis of USC football and college football in general.
