USC has opened spring practice with a ton of players thanks to 32 incoming freshmen players already enrolled.
“We got talent, now we got to build a team,” Lincoln Riley said.
Isn’t that something that could be said for several years? Is USC better at QB than in the past? Or wide receiver? What about linebacker, defensive line and the secondary?
So let’s see what Riley can build. Frankly, I have more faith in Gary Patterson, although the recruiting decisions at some positions hamper him.
- USC is without Tanook Hines for spring practice. Other players who will miss spring practice: CB Chasen Johnson, C Kilian O’Connor, S Christian Pierce, OL Justin Tauanuu and CB Jontez Williams
- I mentioned back in 2024 that USC had a lot of turnover under Riley with recruiting directors and Skylar Phan has now departed for Michigan. She was hired less than two years ago to be director of recruiting operations. Previously, the turnover was because of working conditions that were less than ideal.
- The USC Athletics official newsletter listed the dismissal of Chad Baker-Mazara as a “stock up” item. Who goofed? I’ve got to know! (Jim Healy reference).

Well, RB should be solid with Waymo Jordan back along with King Miller. Lots of young talent at WR. The new LB coach Mike Ekeler noted that 30 of his LBs have played in the NFL and that the abilities in the LB room are comparable to his earlier players. So, hope springs eternal, but then again, it has for the last 16 years…

Scooter,
Lou Holtz passed away. Yes, he was the nd coach and yes we are to hate nd almost as much as satan, but this is one time I will go against the rule, I like Holtz. He is a good Catholic and he was a discplinarian. SC needs someone like that. My Loy Holtz be in heaven with you Dear Lord and may St. Ignatius of Loyola be nice to him.
