USC Notes: Largest Staff In America?

Rob Ryan is in fact coaching at spring practices, which means USC does have three linebacker coaches.

No pun intended but this is a bloated coaching staff.

Ohio State defensive coordinator Matt Patricia will be paid $3.75 million in 2026, making him the highest-paid assistant in the country. I still think USC might have the most expensive staff with all the deadwood getting paid sizeable salaries.

  • Lincoln Riley did not speak to the media today at spring practice. He usually talks on Tuesday.
  • USC held a physical practice at the Coliseum on Saturday. I mention this because it’s basically something that could also be held at the end of spring with fans, if Riley wanted to do it.

The idea that it would cost him a practice to do it is non-sense.

  1. Scott, you are beating a dead horse and thank goodness it isn’t Traveler. You wanted a special teams coach, and now LR has one who can also coach linebackers. If you were the head coach, what would be the size of your ideal staff and for what positions. Be specific because we know that you have an expertise from watching so many spring games throughout the years. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

    1. Couldn’t agree more ambitious….Riley’s no fool….he knows it’s ‘..all in…’ this year win or leave and leave with 5 recorded years of failing to produce if the same outcome as the past 4 years is the result.

I see a great year ahead and I see chaos for a lot of other programs as well as some serious ‘trap’ games esp for ‘the princess’, ‘IN’ and ‘OR’…..

  2. KAM: RIP Jets fullback Matt Snell.

DON: As of 2026, there are seven fullbacks enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Snell should be the 8th.
