USC Saturday Buzz: Big Commitment Day

USC should get a commitment today from five-star athlete Honor Fa’alave-Johnson from San Diego Cathedral Catholic High School.

  • USC plays a doubleheader with Northwestern today. The Trojans were leading 2-0 in the 8th inning of Game 1.
  • I mentioned some of this yesterday but here are the full Pro Day marks from USC. Look at the bench press. It’s generally unimpressive. But no one will want to talk about it.

    1. Questions:

      1. Is this the day that Scott posts pictures of an Asian or a American blonde bombshell or a European actress?
      2. Is Honor good enough at running back to start for USC or should he play safety?
      3. How did Andy Stankiewicz turn around a losing baseball program with limited scholarships and NIL and no baseball field for two years?
      4. Do you think Stankiewicz would make a good basketball coach and could he coach both sports if we increase his salary by 500K per year?

  1. Scott, let me understand your thinking when you post. Our baseball team is undefeated with outstanding play both pitching and hitting with a coach who was hired by AD Jen Cohen, All of the other spring sports are highly competitive. 17 of our football players are working out in the combine and have a good chance to be drafted into the NFL, but you spend an inordinate amount of time commenting on the fact that USC is losing the Mr. Universe title at the combine. Let’s see how the scouts rate them for the draft. Please do yourself a favor and look for positive joys in your life. If you are positive, you make the selective negatives stand out. When you are always negative, you are like the boy always crying wolf. Excuse the pun. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

    1. Ambitious,

As always, you provide great life advice….. for anyone other than a Los Angeles sports writer. Were Scott to follow your advice he’d forfeit his brand and become just another beat writer.

      1. KAM: Gee why would anyone be negative after the collection of bums, pretenders, con men, drunks and liars we have had in succession as coaches for our football and mens basketball teams since 2009? It’s only been 17 years of heartbreak.

DON: Just because our football and basketball teams were big flops in 2025-2026 is no reason to question. We should trust the hired help!

  2. Every team wanted Honor Fa’alave-Johnson.

I tried to paste in some film, but unfortunately the moderator wheel keeps spinning. Anyway, the video would show him in a game scoring on a return in which he hits 22.7 mph top end, which is really fast with uniform, pads, and helmet.

BTW, pretty much every outlet is reporting that USC practices are totally different. Patterson is the man, apparently he is setting the tone for all the players.
