USC Morning Buzz: With Recruiting, Don’t Trust You Know Who’s Version Of Events

Now that USC is putting together top recruiting classes and paying a lot in NIL, Lincoln Riley talks like he planned it all along.

“From the very beginning the vision here was to get this place back to being so good that the great players in this area have zero reason to leave,” Riley said. “Build this up so good that it’s like, why would I get on a plane when I got the very best right here.”

That sounds great but how come Riley ignored visiting Mater Dei High School for the first couple years he was at USC? Why did he insist on recruiting players from Georgia and Texas over California?

The change didn’t occur because USC got better. Has USC gotten better than it was durng Year 1 under Riley? No.

The change occurred because USC couldn’t hold on to those out-of-state recruits who committed early and then a decision was made to change the philosophy and recruit harder in Southern California. And it also worked because USC is now paying players like freshman tight end Mark Bowman of Mater Dei $1.5 million this year.

Bottom line: Don’t trust Riley’s version of events.

  • USC guards Jordan Marsh and Jerry Easter have entered the transfer portal. I put the over/under on USC players in the portal at five.

  1. To put the argument in balance, Wiley stepped into a situaition where SC was not at all competitive with our college’s NIL money

  3. Scooter,

Where was this philopsy when Riley showed up four un-memorably years ago? Budda was right, Riley is a clown. SC will end up being 8-4 this season. If the Whining Chickens of nd didn’t drop out, SC would be 7-5

  4. Yesterday U has had more #1 recruiting classes than any other school except ‘Bama, but still no playoffs or significance since Chow was sent packing!!

Mountain West is calling, Dummies, imagine being DOMINANT again!! except for maybe Air Force who sill plays smashmouth football which was always trOJans downfall!

    1. The “Chow” thing is getting embarrassing.

As far as Coach Riley, he’s given me permission to divulge a note he slipped me four years ago in a Century City Attorney’s office: “The Plan is: 2026 National Championship. Everything else is of preparatory efficacy only.”

    1. Using ‘like’ as a lead-in to an example is not incorrect. I thought you were pointing out that ‘good’ should have been replaced by ‘well’

Wiley’s coaching may be suspect, but he is a good communicator

  5. Meanwhile, at The Hills of Westwood, the same incompetent educrats and faculty who have run up the $450 million yearly deficit are now so intolerant of even slightly Moderate Socialist Democrats that support Israel that they banned CBS News Editor-in-chief Bari Weiss from speaking at a lecture honoring a W a l l St r e e t Jo u r n a l reporter.

    DON: Weiss, the editor-in-chief of C B S N e w s, was scheduled to give the center’s annual Daniel Pearl Memorial lecture by the Burkle Center on Feb. 27 about “The Future of Journalism.”  Daniel Pearl was a J e w i s h j o u r n a l i s t murdered by M u s l i m t e r r o r i s t s. Unbelievable how intolerant D e m o c r a t s have become at the school once jokingly called ” J e w C L A” by Trojans. J e w i s h enrollment has significantly decreased in recent years. This decline is attributed to rising antisemitism on campus and educrats and faculty like this are to blame.

      1. KAM: Have you been passed out for the last year, Cowardly Sparrow Gabby?

Antisemitic Incidents: The establishment of a “J e w Exclusion Zone” during protests has been a major factor. This zone effectively barred J e w i s h students from accessing key areas of campus unless they disavowed their identity or beliefs regarding I s r a e l.

Hostile Environment: Reports indicate that J e w i s h students faced harassment and intimidation during these protests, leading to feelings of insecurity and isolation.

Legal Actions: In response to these incidents, lawsuits have been filed against UCLA, highlighting the university’s failure to protect J e w i s h students and employees from a n t i s e m i t i c harassment. Settlements have been reached, but the damage to the campus climate has already impacted enrollment.

        DON: I wonder if she has heard the news Senile Joe is no longer p r e s i d e n t?

    1. It’s never been cool to “play fair” at UCLA. The faculty has always pushed the latest political fad [& the lazy, cowardly students have always fallen in line].

      1. MickeyG: i spoke to my former college professor, Angela Davis, to discuss suing you for those comments…she just sat quietly staring out the window, fuming. then she mumbled something about calling the “Soledad boys” and said i better leave.

      1. She loves to believe the lies MSM tells her: Joe doesn’t have dementia, Antifa is an ideology not a group, there is more division, hate & violence coming from the Right.

Those are just a few of their bests, but the dimwits believe them!

      2. I’ve said it before & I’ll say it again: It’s surprising to me that a smart guy like John actually buys the MSNBC line.

Violence aimed at churches and synagogues all over the western world shouldn’t be ignored. [Obviously, I don’t want to see violence perpetrated on mosques either —but that doesn’t seem to be the problem these days].

Check out what happens to Gillo Pontecorvo [director of Battle of Algiers] when he takes his film crew to Algiers to do a documentary about his film. You’ll see real hatred.
