USC Tuesday Buzz: Eric Musselman Needs To Get Busy

Eric Musselman wants a point guard. USC has contacted Colby Garland (20.3 points, 4.6 assists) of San Jose State and Jay Rodgers (11.1 points, 6.9 assists) of Central Connecticut State.

USC forward Amarion Dickerson is the latest player to enter the transfer portal.

Musselman better get busy because right now USC doesn’t look great.

One thing that doesn’t get talked about much is that some players enter the portal even though it might seem like they will get more playing time next season because they get asked to take a pay cut.

  • Michigan coach Dusty May worked at USC in 2001 as a video coordinator. Back in those days, it was not unusual for USC assistant coaches, support staff and the media to go out on road trips, either after the Thursday night game or on Friday night.

I remember we would gather in the hotel lobby and a USC PR guy would always say, “We have to wait for Dusty May” but May would never show up. So at a certain point in the seaosn when he would say that, I would say, “F— Dusty May.”

But May was probably too wrapped up in his job duties to have time to go out. He left after a season and the rest was history.

    Men’s football and basketball are a shambles. You have two clowns pretending to be coaches. And then you have Jen Taco Lita Cohen allow this crap to happen. SC’s football team will be 7-5 and the basketball team will have 15 wins.

  4. Musselman is like Richard Kimble in the TV Hit “The Fugitive” he is looking for some players like Kimble was looking for the “one armed” man” to show up so he could be instantly free. Kimble finally got his man in the last episode. Musselman, in this late stage or last episode at USC will not be able to get the man to “save his job” it’s already too late after two years on the job. It’s over Musselman turn yourself in or resign.

    Sorry Eric USC is not the place for you… The NBA G-League fits your resume you cancreate a team on short notice very easily there, and you don’t have to teach basketball it’s Street Ball 101 in that league. You also aren’t expected to win in the G League.

    Good job on doing a “con” job on our Athletic Director, but those of us in basketball know your a below average basketball teaching, and don’t belong in the college game. 5 million a year USC got robbed with this guy, but has no one else to blame for another bad decision.

  5. Spring football games usually have no tackling without first string players. Besides, with nearly 1/3 of the team made up of new guys, they needed every single one of their 15 practices.

    And 2027 and 2028 recruits said they liked being able to attend practices to view how the coaches and players run it. One recruit said he was surprised at how involved Wiley was with the offensive linemen

  6. Sorry Eric Musselman your going to have to sell the House in Manhattan Beach. The Muss bus blew out it’s transmission, and the tires were stolen by one of your recent transfer players who you promised more playing time. Your materialistic wife won’t like going back to the G- League with their low salaries. USC gave you the chance , and don’t forgot USC paid your son close to 500,000 for his 1st coaching job. Start looking it won’t be easy you failed at USC.

      2. Charlie —I’m officially no longer a fan of T-r-u-m-p’s. I’m also not a a fan of the C-l-i-n-t-o-n-s —or their “Foundation” [check out its many ‘good works’ in Haiti]. Or a fan of the O-b-a-m-a-s [well, maybe M-i-c-h-e-l-l-e —love the way she stuffed her face with salad while her hubby tried to make nice to repubs at state dinners]. I won’t even mention the B-i-d-e-n-s [who still can’t figure out how they can claim the millions they’ve passed thru 53 corporations without getting into tax evasion problems]… the long and the short of it is: Emiliano Zapata was right —don’t put your faith in any of these people.   8. If the 25th wasn’t used on the last guy who actually qualified on Day 1 in 2021, it should NEEVR be used.

    But some people are too stupid to get that. Always accusing the other side of what THEY are guilty.

  9. Some good points from a local Fayetteville, Ark reporter and the truth about our Prize Basketball Coach Eric Musselman. Looks like we have a coach who is mentally ill with high turnover of players year in and year out ,and few graduate just like I said he is a G-League coach. A con man with a small man’s complex come on USC you can do better than this guy. Cut the cord let him go before it is too late.

    “Musselman is going to have to keep a few players around and develop them which is just not his mode of operation. His biggest personal weakness is the coach version of himself is difficult to be around for long periods of time and he doesn’t like to be around others for long periods of time.

    Davonte Davis and Kamani Johnson are the only two scholarship players to last more than two seasons under Musselman at Arkansas and no one could say the final two years went smoothly for Davis. USC is going to expect him to bring a solid portion of the roster in as freshmen who will eventually graduate.

    That is a recipe for disaster. It’s the one aspect that made it uncertain Musselman would get the job despite reportedly landing an interview that would normally make things academic.

    The idea of Musselman having to be around six or seven of the same players every year for three to five years is just impossible to picture. He will hate life and those players will be miserable.

    Eventually, that door at USC is going to become a flood gate just like it was at Arkansas and that’s not going to sit well with administration. There will be grumbles”
