USC Morning Buzz: The Difference Between Genuine And Forced Stunts

Chad “Charmin” Bowden made a splash (literally) when he walked to the top of the diving platform Saturday in the USC swim stadium at Swim with Mike fundraiser and jumped in the water.

Did he know Pete Carroll did the same thing years ago?

The difference was Carroll did it as a way of taking part with Swim with Mike and interacting with his players. Bowden seemed to make it about himself. For example, he wore a pullover and long pants when he jumped into the pool. It felt like a stunt. Carroll dressed appropriately.

But let’s remember Bowden also dressed like a leprechaun a few years ago at Notre Dame. So it’s nothing new.

  • Guard KJ Lewis of Georgetown visits USC today. He averaged 14.9 points and 5.1 rebounds last season.
  • USC is ranked No. 10 in the nation in today’s Baseball America poll.

Iowa led the Big Ten with a .318 batting average and was held to a .163 average in three games over the weekend. Unfortunately for USC, that kind of thing mattered much more last weekend when it played UCLA and the pitching faltered.

For many fans, they don’t follow the team closely until the Crosstown Rivalry. The same goes with track and field, when the dual meet is the most important thing.

  1. Scott, you still have not answered the question, where you at the Family Fun Day, and did you try to interview Chad or Jen? Must you always be snarky, the sweep of Iowa was excellent and yes UCLA has a great baseball team and a pretty good women’s water polo team. And, are you really commenting on how Chad was dressed when he jumped into the pool. You never cease to amaze me with your deep search for negatives….please find joy in your life for a happier life. 1. Wolf is trying to show you that what PC did wasn’t a stunt, that USC sports across the board don’t so well against their crosstown rivals in most sports, and how USC bent over for their pathetic head football coach to build his dream football building without securing the money in advance and now can’t find anyone to finish paying for it.

Dan, maybe you should meet up with Kenny Hart, you two would get along just fine.

    2. Ambitious is 100% right…. but he doesn’t appreciate Scott’s brand or Scott himself. Scott is not only our resident Bad Boy…he’s a big fan of Montaigne’s famous motto: “I don’t follow the etiquette of polite society. I would rather offend strangers once than myself every day.”

  2. Jeff Goodman, a longtime college basketball insider who now works for the Field of 68, reported that the average price for power conference point guards is $3 million-4 million, wings are going for $2.5M-3M and big men are the most expensive at $4M-5M.

“For a proven all-conference player, it is $2.5 million to start the conversation. What you’re going to see a lot of people doing is budgeting a lot of money for starters and then not building in a lot for depth or bench guys. You’re going to see a lot of teams that are top heavy.”

This past season, there were only a handful of teams with payrolls in the range of $10 million or more, led by Kentucky at a reported $20 million. But that number is expected to increase significantly across the board. Getting to $10 million feels like the basement level for high-major programs that want to contend.

Ya think USC is going to spend 10 million on basketball players ???????

  4. Interesting how Wolffie, who used to belittle Pete when he was coach now commends him and compares the present coaches, who he wishes to belittle to him.
