USC Morning Buzz: Back To Grind For Trojans

The goal for the No. 19-ranked USC baseball team is to host a regional.

The good news is USC’s RPI is No. 9 in the nation. The bad news is USC is 0-8 against Quad 1 teams and its best victory is against UC Santa Barbara (RPI 36). Its next-best wins are over No. 65 Purdue.

USC has a big series against Oregon coming up May 14-16 in Eugene that could determine the Trojans’ fate.

  • Offensive lineman DJ Wingfield, who was ineligible and never actually played for USC, signed with the Denver Broncos.
  • This was the scene as USC water polo team returned to campus Sunday night.

  1. The baseball team isn’t that good.

The competition in the Big 10 compared to the old Pac 12 is a joke. No Stanford, ASU, UA or Oregon St and WSU had some good teams back in the day.

Even the local schools are down, Fullerton & LBSU aren’t very good.

It’s nice that they are winning but……………..

  2. Congrats to the ladies water polo team, woman’s golf could be another NC and maybe beach volleyball.

One thing is for sure, Sir Lincoln of The Fetal Position isn’t going to win a NC at USC.

    1. Budda,

You burst my bubble for the baseball team. I think they are pretty good. I think that they are rebuilding and it will take another couple of years. However, the coach is right for SC. I am hoping that they come around.

Riley is a dead duck to me. Sorry, Daffy.

      1. Stankiewicz is an excellent coach, some NIL would help and so would some support from the athletic department, like finish the damn stadium.

      2. KAM: Next year they need to schedule some SEC and ACC teams to toughen them up. As of April 27, 2026, the top 5 teams in the NCAA Division I baseball rankings are UCLA, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Texas, and Georgia. Play them instead of UCSB.

DON: Besides UCLA and USC the Big Ten is not a baseball conference. USC is currently ranked #19.

  3. Might not be a bad pickup for the Bears. Maybe some chemistry there too with Caleb. MM wasn’t horrible at QB for us, he just got hit too many times and was scapegoated by LR as the latter sought to avoid an exceedingly hot seat for team underperformance. I can only wish Miller good luck in the windy city with CW.
