USC Morning Buzz: Several Defensive Questions Heading Into Season

Here are some questions I have about USC’s defense going into the season:

  • The back seven is the weak spot where one linebacker position and the entire secondary have question marks.
  • Is there a go-to cornerback? A standout at safety?
  • Does USC have two linebackers who can disrupt a game?
  • USC guard Alijah Arenas won the athletic dept.’s Tommy Award for Overcoming Adversity.

On coming back next season:

“It’s a statement for me and a statement for USC,” Arenas said.

It’s also a statement that his draft stock wasn’t where he thought it was. In fact, Arenas is an example of one of my pet peeves, players who reclassify and graduate early from high school.

Did he really gain anything by going to college instead of staying in high school and playing his senior year? He probably doesn’t injure his knee, for starters.

  1. USC finally has a guy coach the defense that actually understands defense.

Unfortunatly, they still have Sir Lincoln of The Fetal Position at head coach, and that’s just too much to overcome.

    1. Fetal position? Ha! Even during a severe case of pneumonia our coach stood tall….

  3. Patterson is solid for the D, even with the aforementioned lack of star power in the secondary and at LB, but tragically, the whole team will embody LR as HC. HCs always do. It is how the machinery works. And LR is nothing but a towel waver extraordinaire. No spine. No toughness. No grit. What does that mean? It means his signature team meltdowns in the 4th quarter of games will continue unabated this upcoming season. Against near-peer talent opponents with coaches who exude strength and a will to win, LR will be hopelessly lost and outclassed. I sure wish he was not our HC. Preparing for a 7-5 disappointment of a season yet again, although I sure hope I am wrong. I hate those types of reruns.

      2. Unfortunately, dems will ignore court rulings and send the 2026 elections into chaos, litigation and violent demonstrations…. which, as we all know, is the state of things they feel the most comfortable with….

      3. And the idiots will still point to something almost six years old, as evidence the hate & violence is coming equally from both sides.

So, not only Ostroushko & his daughter indicted, but also his wife. The family that says they’re not violent. LMAO

I don’t expect them to do the ten years they’re looking at. But a sentence of 3 years for him and having to do at least 1 year of it would be good. What a jackass!

  4. KAM: Texas Tech Brendan Sorsby’s Gambling Trouble Is a Warning That College Sports Can’t Ignore.

DON: Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby was one of the hottest transfer players this offseason. Now his college career is in jeopardy because of gambling. The university announced on Monday that Sorsby has entered a residential treatment program for gambling addiction.

DON: Per ESPN: “Sorsby’s decision to seek treatment, according to sources, came in the wake of the discovery of Sorsby making thousands of online bets on a variety of sports via a gambling app, which jeopardizes his eligibility with Texas Tech.”

“According to sources, Sorsby bet on Indiana football while redshirting for the Hoosiers as a true freshman in 2022, a season in which he played in a single game as a reserve,” the report continues. “The bets in 2022, according to sources, were on Indiana to win and none came in a game in which Sorsby appeared.”
