The USC men’s volleyball team is going to be in a hornet’s nest tonight when it plays Hawaii at Honolulu in the NCAA Tournament at 7 p.m. PT.
As of Friday night, 9,723 tickets were sold ahead of tonight’s match. The record for attendance in an NCAA men’s volleyball tournament match is 9,822 in 1998. That match was also held at the University of Hawaii. Capacity at the Stan Sheriff Center is 10,300.
USC is 20-7 overall. Hawaii is 27-5.
- USC beach volleyball was defeated by Florida State, 3-0, in the NCAA quarterfinals this morning.
- USC received almost $80 million from the Big Ten as the conference disbursed $1.37 billion to its members in the first year from its media rights deal. Ohio State received $91.55 million.
- Why would USC take 6-10 forward Josh Hughes from Evansville (7.2 ppg) when it has the 7-foot Ratliff twins and 7-1 UConn transfer Why would USC take 6-10 forward Josh Hughes from Evansville (7.2 ppg) when it has the 7-foot Ratliff twins and 7-1 UConn transfer Eric Reibe?
Perhaps because it doesn’t think one or both of the Ratliff twins are ready for the physical rigors of the Big Ten.
USC has added point guard Aaron Hunkin-Claytor of Hawaii. So new assistant Brad Davidson has now brought in an fellow Australian (Hughes) and Hunkin-Clayton, who he coached at Hawaii.
To paraphrase a great man: “There’s Always a Hawaii Connection.”

Amen, brother! The 5-0 theme song! So many good ones around that time! I couldn’t bring myself to watch the remake of 5-0. Hollywood has run out of creativity.

Looks like USC will go big next year in hoops. Won’t be easy keeping the Ratliff twins, Reibe (from UConn), Arenas, and Rice all content.
