USC Notes: Rivalry Back In News

USC and Notre Dame are talking about renewing their rivalry, per the L.A. Times. The schools never really stopped talking since their series was officially discontinued.

But here’s something interesting: Donors and luxury suite holders have complained to the USC athletic dept. over their disgust with the decision (and the athletic director), which has also played a part in USC’s change in philosophy.

  • USC forward Jacob Cofie was invited to the NBA Combine after an impressive G League Combine.
  • Former USC wide receiver Kyron Hudson has signed a free-agent contract with the Chicaog Bears after attending a rookie tryout at their mini-camp.

  1. KAM::Magic Johnson endorsed USC’s own Karen Bass for re-election as LA Mayor; claiming somehow that she has “decreased homelessness and crime.” Only one problem…

DON: Magic Johnson lives in Beverly Hills. Beverly Hills residents can’t vote for LA Mayor, as BH 90210 is a different city with its own Mayor. Cowardly Gabby hardest hit!

  2. KAM: Rece Davis Doubting Riel’s Coyote’s Playoff Chances

DON: According to ESPN’s College GameDay host Rece Davis, USC is unlikely to win 10 games this season, and failing to reach that benchmark likely means that the Trojans will fail to miss the CFP for another year.

  3. It makes sense that the donors are not happy with Jen Cohen. They funded the new football facility and a competitive NIL, everything she asked for, and then she cancels the ND series. I blame ND more than USC but the bottom line is that the donors want the game.

    1. She didn’t cancel it – ‘the princess’ did – Bevacqua made sure 1. he had the BYU game sewed up and 2. alerted his captive ‘NYC’ centered sports outlets ‘know’ before he did his ‘crying jag’ last December. T

he Princess understood the foundation had shifted for everyone else i.e. game opponents and dates played matter in particular for ‘OOC’ but have no impact for them but what they do need is quality opponents and no matter what most think this is the Irish rolling over.

They realize their schedule is weak at best and has been for the past 6 – 7 years. This is why some voters finally said ‘enough’ last November but then cowardly caved going forward ensuring this con job will never be denied their ‘right’ for the playoffs.

I admire Jen Cohen for throwing down the guantlet….this is what the wealthy donors who bemoaned the cancellation don’t understand….suddenly they’re oldest rival says ‘no more’. Where this is going to hit the Irish is what is emerging – forcing them to play tougher opponents not just next year but year after year.

  4. Six months after one of college football’s most rivals USC and Notre Dame are in active discussions to resume play, The Times has learned.

It’s not clear yet when the rivalry series will return or what the terms will be. A person familiar with the discussions not authorized to talk about them publicly told The Times that Notre Dame is now willing to discuss , which had previously been a sticking point
