USC Morning Buzz: Don’t Believe Scholarship Figure Is Set In Stone

USC says it will sign 16 recruits for the Class of 2027 and already has 14 commitments.

Do you really think if a five-star defensive tackle wants to commit after the Trojans get 16 commitments, they will tell the recruit no thanks because their class is full?

Now I don’t doubt they want to sign a small class, I just don’t think the number is set in stone. No way Lincoln Riley and Charmin Bowden say no to a recruit if they are too good to pass up.

And let’s see how the attitude changes if some of the 35 incoming freshmen decide to transfer out of USC in December. Look how many true freshman transferred out after only a semester this year.

So like everything else in recruiting — commitments, scholarships awarded, etc., — is a fluid business despite whatever gets said.

    1. KAM: Search Assist says Cowardly Gabby’s role model P e t e B u t t b o y was caught lying about modernizing A i r T r a f f i c systems and reducing h i g h w a y f a t a l i t i e s…

      P e t e B u t t i g i e g, during his time as T r a n s p o r t a t i o n S e c r e t a r y, faced significant criticism for wasting $80 billion prioritizing D E I i n i t i a t i v e s over essential upgrades to the a i r t r a f f i c c o n t r o l s y s t e m. This focus has led to delays in necessary improvements, which may have contributed to ongoing issues in a i r t r a v e l s a f e t y and efficiency.

      C o n t r o l l e r S h o r t a g e s: The F e d e r a l A v i a t i o n A d m i n i s t r a t i o n (FAA) has struggled with chronic understaffing, which has been exacerbated by the lack of timely hiring and training of new c o n t r o l l e r s.

      B u t t i g i e g ‘ s efforts to reduce h i g h w a y f a t a l i t i e s have also been scrutinized. The a d m i n i s t r a t i o n ‘ s focus on regulatory measures, $100 million wildlife bridges over busy freeways, $120 billion trains to nowhere, D E I i n i t i a t i v e s and drivers licenses for i l l e g a l a l i e n s has overshadowed the pressing need for infrastructure improvements that could enhance road safety.

      1. KAM: T r a n s g e n d e r high school athlete like Cowardly Gabby dominated multiple girls track and field events at a California regional final Saturday, igniting backlash from parents, competitors and activists, and prompting officials to award duplicate gold medals to female runners-up. Jurupa Valley High School senior, AB Hernandez, 17, captured first place in the girls’ long jump, high jump and triple jump events during the California Interscholastic Federation’s Southern Section championship final. Some of Hernandez’s female rivals appeared to ice her out during the medal ceremonies, with one competitor skipping the podium altogether and others keeping their distance amid the escalating controversy. The meet drew roughly 2,000 spectators, many of whom booed the winner and voiced outrage over Hernandez competing in the girls division.

        DON: Critics at the event repeatedly invoked Title IX protections, arguing girls athletics are being undermined by D e m o c r a t G o v e r n o r Mimbo and the One Party D e m o c r a t Machine running the State of California by allowing biological m a l e s to compete in f e m a l e divisions. Title IX is a landmark federal law that bans s e x discrimination in any American school or educational program that receives federal funding…

  1. wolfman, i know you are tired of hearing about Bruin winning streaks, how do you feel about records wolfman???

Baseball America just announced Bruins are the only team in their history to go from pre-season #1 to end of reg season #1!!!

meanwhile, Megan Grant broke her own NCAA HR record with a grand slam to help Run Rule SC in the Regionals!!!

feels like UCLA is taking the Big 10 by storm, wolfman, raking up Nattys, while SC is rolling around in the mud!!

  2. wolfman, speaking of womens’ sports, it’s time to address the LACK of womens’ sports at SC!! after basketball, the two leading ladies sports by popularity are softball and gymnastics. ESPN has televised all the Softball playoff games all Weekend.

wolfman, are you aware southern cal is the ONLY Big 10 school that does not have softball and womens gymnastic teams??? it really feels like SC is NOT ready to compete with the big time schools like MI, UCLA, etc

this is why myself and others have recommended SC go to the Mountain West, where they would fit in better and have a chance to dominate in football like they used to last century.

  3. Scott, did you graduate from the School of Journalism at USC? Since when is “What if?” a journalism question along with who, what, where, and when? Commitments are always going to be soft commitments as long as there is a transfer portal. You alsways like to phrase comments so that they reflect negatively on USC, but you know that the system of the commitments and the portal is in play for every school now. A good journalist would ask the AD why USC does not have women’s teams for softball and gymnastics. A good reporter would find out why USC is not recruiting world class middle distance and women’s cross country runners, and why the swim team is not recruiting world class swimmers like Peter Daland. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

  5. Scott: Why did Matai Tagoa’i, the highly rated linebacker from San Clemente, transfer. He looked really good in the 2025 Polynesian Bowl. Fast and hit hard. We could use linebackers. Never heard the story.

    1. KAM: What are the reasons for Matai Tagoa’i’s transfer to the University of Arizona?

DON: AI says Matai Tagoa’i the #27 ranked LB in the Transfer Portal, transferred to the University of Arizona to seek a bigger role after playing one season at USC, where he played in 8 games, recording four tackles and a forced fumble. He has three years of eligibility remaining and aims to make a significant impact with the Wildcats (9-4 in 2025).

  6. KAM: Although USC is safely headed to the NCAA Tournament field finishing as the 4th seed behind UCLA, NEB and Oregon in the Big Ten after the Lost Weekend in Eugene the latest ranking drop to #25 in the nation likely changed the Trojans’ postseason destination.

DON: The NCAA Selection Committee recently adjusted its seeding structure to rank teams 1 through 32 nationally rather than only identifying the top 16 hosts. Teams seeded between 17 and 32 are typically placed as No. 2 seeds in regionals, meaning USC could be sent into a difficult road environment because of the collapse against the Ducks instead of being a host, despite its strong regular-season record.

  7. Only idiots call the UCLA football program ‘big time” The only thing big time about the UCLA football program are the pigeons like yourself who are stupid enough to go to the games and look for free tickets and food, and then leave at halftime.

We don’t do woman’s sports because we can’t afford it other than basketball, and swimming. UCLA should cut the minor sports this is why the athletic program is broke ….! UCLA baseball can’t even afford their own stadium so as always they steal the land from the Veterans who deserve more housing. Where is Mick the Midget Cronin he is on his way to another poor recruiting year it won’t be long until UCLA gets tired of that little man just like those on a USC board get tired of pigeons from UCLA who fly with words but with no purpose in life.
