USC Morning Buzz: Four-Star Receiver Decommits

Four-star wide receiver Eli Woodard of Temecula has decommitted from USC.

He had committed to USC in February. Remember, Chad Bowden’s policy of not letting recruits take visits to other schools. Miami and Georgia are interested in Woodard.

  • Lincoln Riley is doing his offseason spin tour with stories by ESPN and USA Today.

“It’s time,” Riley told ESPN about making the College Football Playoff. “The program’s ready for it.”

In Year 5. Riley forgot to mention it would take at least five years when he got hired at USC.

And he hasn’t made the playoff in Year 5 yet either.

“I feel like I’ve got a little bit of credibility in terms of having been in part of some places that did (win) at a pretty high level,” Riley added.

“So I have at least a little bit of an idea of what I’m talking about.”

The expert at winning has lost 18 games in four years at USC. But he wants to lecture everyone that he knows about winning.

  1. QUESTION: Wiley, do you really believe SC will make the Playoffs this year? 10-2 looks like a tough row to hoe

WILEY: Probably not but you got to wear a happy face

  2. I don’t have a problem with the ” not taking other trips ” policy, if you’re committed to USC, why take other trips ? If you want to take trips and you know SC’s policy, take the trips before you commit to USC, it’s not a hard concept.

But we all know what this comes down to, money, he got offered more money from another school, see ya.

    1. He likely was offered more money by another program and USC refused to match it. Or, he found out that the other two incoming receivers were being paid more than him and USC refused to match it.

I don’t think Woodard is that much of a loss. He is probably a very good player but USC can always find receivers.

  3. LR has to spin it. He has no other choice. This question will come up, and he has no other answer he wants to give. Why did your Oklahoma teams win so much more than your teams at USC? LR, you are the common denominator. Was the competition level lower for Oklahoma? Did you need to do less work there, or were the duties of recruiting and running the program taken care of by others? Has the game simply passed you by? The answer cannot be NIL, because that simply is not true…

    1. Riley’s teams gave up

      54 points

      45 points

      63 points

in three straight playoff losses to SEC teams, ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY TWO POINTS IN THREE GAMES, FIFTY FOUR A GAME !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yet, Bohner gave him a sweetheart deal and USC is still paying for it and will for some time to come because they can’t or won’t buy him out, they have to hope he takes a job elsewhere.

  4. I don’t think Riley had the talent in the trenches to be a top tier team. Michigan and LSU beat up Miller Moss a few years back. Our O line was no match for them. And our defensive line was awful last year. I primarily blame Helton for the offensive line woes. It takes a few years to develop depth and Helton left Riley nothing other than Monheim. Our offensive line was way too inexperienced last year. But our defensive also sucked and that is on Riley. Our defensive transfers have not been stellar – Keyshawn Silver and DJ Harvey were awful. And there still seems to be confusion with the defensive scheme 4 years later. That is unacceptable for a supposedly top tier coach. Hopefully, Petersen fixes it.

    1. KAM: Yet lowly Indy went from zeroes to NC in 2 years.

DON: We spent $110 million on the wrong coach. Blame Riley Coyote.

    2. The wonderful thing, Plow? Petersen doesn’t have to “fix” the problems on defense —just minimize them….

  5. What an awful quote from Riley. Hes been at ONE place that has had playoff appearances/success. But it seems clear he was just piggybacking off the Bob Stoops era.

Those quotes from Riley make it seem like he’s just a total prick.

    1. T. ,

Would it make you happy if USC were 9-2 going into the UCLA game [with a 100% chance of going to the playoffs with a “w”]…and UCLA was 6-5 [with 0% chance of winning anything big in the postseason] and UCLA won at the Rose Bowl…..?
