USC Sunday Buzz: Another Tradition Disappears

One of the nice things USC did over the years was let the Los Angeles City Section host the Open and Division 1 baseball playoff semifinals at Dedeaux Field for a reasonable price.

But then Dedeaux Field got torn down and the City Section had move elsewhere. Even though the new Dedeaux Field opened this year, the baseball playoffs did not return.

That’s a shame. Hopefully, USC did not try to raise the rent like in 2019, when it raised the rent for four days of use from $4,000 to more than $18,000 before it backed down.

It would be nice if the semifinals returned to Dedeaux Field next year. We’ll see.

  1. K-A-R-E-N B-A-S-S must know she’s in trouble –she’s implicitly putting out the message: “Since there’s no voter I. D. in Los Angeles — I encourage illegal aliens to vote without fear of reprisal.”

      1. KAM: Cowardly Gabby loves the child trafficking Senile J o e B i d en Regime. Over 85,000 unaccompanied migrant children became untraceable under B i d en Administration Secretary Xavier Becerra’s leadership at HHS.

DON: Why does Cowardly Gabby have to lie so much when she knows her lies will be swatted down like gnats?

      2. Although I am embarrassed that the repubs are too weak to pass the Save America Act….I am disgusted that dems actively oppose it.

    1. a cult-driven canard, surprised you bought into THAT but deny the Drumpf corruption and involvement in child trafficking, despite OVERWHELMING evidence!

I’m surprised you don’t realize that your old pal doesn’t trust any of these folks anymore —I guess it’s up to each of us to love our families and save our souls…

      2. as i have been assuring my Lib pals, the pendulum ALWAYS swings back to the other side, lets just hope the Dems don’t pursue crazy immunity-fueled corruption! but it might be fun!!

      3. No, dear Charlie — the repubs in congress are the most cowardly people on earth —and the dems are the most dangerous. None of these folks are out to redeem anybody —they’re only out to count heads [and money].

DON: She also admired Pat Haden’s charity grifting and defended it .

      5. The $$$ the dems pledge to domestic projects never gets to the streets –it stays in their pockets.

  2. Scott-

Dedeaux lost their Certificate of Occupancy the second Nevada left town in early May. There are Zero Restrooms and there is Zero Access for Handicapped Persons.

That is the reason why CIF or SC Baseball cannot hold games until next year.

  3. MG, thank you for the compliment regarding me having a feud with Scott. From time to time we may have a disagreement regarding our interpretations of reality, but I wouldn’t call it a feud per se. Just personal disagreements. My main disagreement is that tradition is only as good as the reality in which it is offered. There is evolution in sports just like in nature and science, etc. I agree with Scott that high school playoffs should be held free of charge on the USC campus. We should want high school students to have the USC experience if only for a day…..isn’t that a great edge for recruiting. My fear is that if we don’t offer our field, UCLA or Pepperdine or Cal State Fullerton will offer there’s and get the recruiting advantage. So, I am giving Scott a pat on the back. Of course, Scott’s love for ND vis a vis our Trojans is way out of line. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

      2. Paul Dee and the corrupt NCAA with the aid of ND accomplished by committee what the SEC couldn’t do on the field, beat USC. The penalities after the rigged Reggie Bush “scandal” contributed to the downfall of USC supremacy….by losing 30 scholarships, losing games that they won on the field of play, and losing opportunities to play for championships. The corrupt NCAA was abetted by Larry Scott and the weak sisters in the PAC 12 who wanted parity over justice for USC. Couple all of that with Pat Haden and USC administration rolling over or being bought off by the NCAA. It’s amazing that the football program survived at all. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

      3. KAM: My UW friends laugh at such whining, after USC supported the Pac 10 and the NCAA destroying the Don James era at Washington in 1993.

  4. hey wolfman, a few traditions endure: the Bruins won the Big 10 baseball Champeeeenship with their third tourney walk-off (impossibly, their 28th comeback in 51 wins!!)

i know you hate hearing about Bruins winning streaks, but the softball ladies team just won their regional to advance to the Women’s World Series!!! the Bruin gals have set ALL TIME NCAA records with 200 HR’s and over 630 runs scored!!!

    1. KAM: There is no more cult behavior than Cowardly Gabby D e m o c r a ts blindly supporting a decrepit, senile corrupt p e d o p h i l e to be the figurehead p r e s i d e n t while a junta ran the country, then deposing him after his pratfall in the June 27, 2024 debate and installing a new candidate who had never won one primary.

      1. The dems have turned the nomination over to a Kenyan who lost the popular vote courtesy of their super-delegate formula, a woman who pretended her opponent was financed by Russia, a braindead candidate who campaigned from his basement due to “the pandemic” …and a woman who never won a primary.
