Last weekend I floated the idea that USC save its ace, Mason Edwards, for the UCLA game at the Big Ten Tournament.
Well, today USC coach Andy Stankiewicz said he will start No. 2 pitcher Grant Govel tomorrow against Texas State and save Edwards for the big game Saturday against host Texas A&M.
Some might view its as a risk but if USC beats Texas State and Edwards can beat Texas A&M, it would put the Trojans in a commanding position in the regional. And Govel is good enough for Stankiewicz to feel comfortable using him in the opener, which is always a key game in the regional format.

KAM: For two years, the official Democrat Party line obediently followed by Cowardly Gabby and T r a n n y Bruin was that Joe B i d e n ‘ s catastrophic June 2024 CNN debate performance was just a bad night. A sore throat. Jet lag. A stutter. Covid. Pick your excuse; the narrative from the campaign was that B i d e n simply had a bad night. Even his wife, “Dr” Jill, praised his performance back then because, well…she was was enjoying running the country while he drooled in the basement.
Although Cowardly Gabby still won’t admit there was anything wrong, it turns out that “Dr” Jill wasn’t so blown away by her husband’s performance that night. In an interview with CBS News, she admitted that she thought her husband was having a stroke while it was happening!

Scott, if Govel couldn’t beat Texas State, there is no way he would beat A and M. This was Coach Andy’s best move. USC needs one more quality starter and an outstanding closer to win the CWS. If Edwards and Govel stay with the program for at least one more year, we would have a great chance next year. Coach Andy is teh Coach Cignetti of baseball……especially if he uses NIL and the portal. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962
