USC Morning Buzz: Some Things Don’t Add Up

Now let’s point out a little athletic dept. hypocrisy in between the good feelings about the USC baseball team.

Jen Cohen told the L.A. Times that athletic dept. revenue at USC is up 60 percent the past three years and donors have increased the department’s financial reserves by more than 700 percent since she took over as athletic director.

How hard was she patting herself on the back when she said this?

Now a couple thoughts:

If revenues are up 60 percent in three years, why did the athletic dept. have layoffs last summer? Don’t you think the people who lost their jobs — including some who worked at USC for 20 years — would like an explanation? I guess no one thought to ask Cohen about that.

And if donations have increased $700 million since she took over, why is Dedeaux Field unfinished? Why does she say USC is still $25 million short on fundraising for the project?

Maybe if these things don’t square up, we can’t take seriously some of the comments from the athletic dept. regarding the collapse of the Notre Dame series.

  2. We have a good chance of winning this regional. Our No. 3 pitcher has now gained some confidence and are top two pitchers will be rested. Our batting is coming around. And other than Auburn and North Carolina, the teams are not highly ranked and both ranked teams appear to be beatable based on their records.

      1. Just tell them it wasn’t you MG, it was Sybil posting as you. If that doesn’t work, you can say you were in Maui at the time of the post and their is no internet access in Maui because of the fires. Or, that you were in both Los Angeles and Oakland at the time of the Oakland fires. All the talk about the different fires should frustrate them to the point where they just move on.

        the L.A. Times that we know does not exist. They write strictly for all of the pencil neck geeks that read the wet noodle newspaper. The wet noodle is in reference to the pencil neck geeks and to the owner of the paper.

  5. Revenue is up because USC sold its soul to the BIG and all that television money. Had nothing to do with Jen. And if you ask the fans, virtually every one of them would rather play in the old PAC 10 with its traditions and geographical proximity. Sadly, we could have had just as much revenue if we would have allowed Texas to join the conference a few years back and keep their television network but the idiotic Presidents nixed that idea. Also, nixed the idea of USC receiving a proportionate share of the revenue they brought into the conference rather than an equal split among all teams.

  11. Scott, must you inject a snarky remark about poor ND no longer riding on the coat tails of USC in every story with no proof for what you say. What poll shows USC fans yearning to bow down to the Irish for “tradition”. Of course, USC fans would like the series to continue but not at the expense of bowing down to the princiess. And, would I trade games with Oregon State, Washingrton State and Arizona for games against Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State, and for one fourth the TV revenue, no I would rather be with the top schools in the top conference in the country. The Pac 12 could have kept USC, but Larry Scott had his sweetheart contract as commissioner by catering to the weak sisters in the Pac 12 with his mantra of parity. The Pac 12 got what it deserved when the top teams left for the best conference in the country. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962
