USC Morning Buzz: Nick Saban Wants Regional Conferences

Nick Saban testified to the U.S. Senate this morning and said it is in the best interest of college athletes to play in regional conferences.

“I don’t think it’s fair for someone at USC to have to go to Rutgers, whether field hockey or a football game. That’s crazy.”

  • So this week’s question might be if Andy Stankiewicz holds No. 2 pitcher Grant Govel until Sunday vs. North Carolina to give him an extra day of rest after pitching two games in College Station?

Now if USC loses Friday, it would be hard to hold Govel unless he doesn’t feel right. But if USC wins Friday, it might be worth it. The caveat would be whether Govel feels comfortable waiting until Friday night when he will pitch or needs to know sooner.

  • USC golfer Catherine Park was named Big Ten player of the year.
  • Lincoln Riley recently played in the Coaches’ Classic golf tournament at Pebble Beach. Again. This raised the eyebrows of some members of the Trojan Football Alumni Club, because he has never showed up for their tournament since being hired at USC.
  • Former USC WR Drake London agreed to a four-year, $141 million extension with the Atlanta Falcons worth up to $150 million, including $100 million guaranteed. It makes him the third-highest paid receiver in the NFL.

    1. KAM: So Nick Saban is saying Carol Folt is crazy?

DON: Yes leaving the Pac 12 was the dumbest move in USC history until they ended the ND rivalry.

  3. A Nick Saban comment that doesn’t only favor the SEC? Is the world ending? An asteroid on its way? I am in shock that Nick is the voice of reason today.

    1. Nick wants to go back to the pre-NIL days where payments were illegal and Alabama dominated largely because their payments to athletes were made secretly and never investigated. Jumbo Fisher, Nick’s offensive coordinator, stated that Alabama ran the dirtiest program in the NCAA.

      1. True — but all in all that system is better than what we have today [I reserve the right to change my opinion if Lincoln continues to master NIL and wins 3 National Championships]…

  5. KAM: Maybe Wiley chose not to play in golf tournaments because he is a lousy golfer

DON: Or perhaps he just doesn’t enjoy socializing

    1. The well educated critical thinkers on the Left saved California? Funniest thing yet! Wish Ed. G said it, though.

[Special Note — Commie USA Today explained California delayed results thusly: “Thanks to controls put in place as a result of the Pandemic, California’s vote totals are not measured in raw numbers —vote totals may go up or down. This is not a sign of a problem. It is just a function of California’s system.” How dumb would you have to be to believe that? Even intelligent cows would find it suspicious]…..

      1. what’s so hard to understand? we allow votes to be mailed in the day of election. of course it takes days, we are by far the biggest state. i ok with early vote counting, and chsnging mail-ins to 3 days before election. easy. this would solve most of the problems, but even under current process, no significant fraud ever found despite many investigations and studies.

  8. Win game 1 Friday night then decide who pitches on Saturday. Your No. 2 and No. 3 starters should be ready either way on 4 to 5 days rest It’s all about momentum in these 3 game series for all the marbles. The key question is will USC be able to stay hot offensively against a good North Carolina pitching staff??????????????????????????????

One must wonder how good the USC pitching would have been this year with Caden Aoki who sadly transferred to Georgia where he is having a tremendous season as the No.1 starter on probably the top team in the country right now. Aoki, was dominant at time when he was at USC especially in the playoffs. To me to win it all in college baseball you need 3 dominant starters with a 96+ fastabll.
