An Update To My USC Basketball Suggestion

So yesterday I took Eric Musselman and USC to task about producing a non-conference schedule worthy of a team ranked in the preseason top 15.

So I got this response from Dan Shell, who helps put on the Arcisure Classic Invitational in Coachella Valley that USC will play in this season.

My response to Shell was that USC hasn’t wanted to tango since Andy Enfield was hired so it’s been a long-term issue.

And I mentioned yesterday USC will play two of these possible opponents: Arizona State, LSU, SMU, South Carolina and Utah State. That’s good. But I’m talking about playing Duke, UConn or someone of that nature.

    1. KAM: Good one MG! How about playing Pac 12 rivals AZ, Stanford and Utah?

DON: And Houston, KY, NC, Syracuse, Louisville, Gonzaga, Florida, Arkansas and Kansas?

    2. MG, USC women’s soccer plays an exhibition game against Duke to start this year. Can I assume that Scott will be at the game? And, they play Niagara in Lacrosse which sounds interesting. I heard that Duke, North Carolina and Kansas wanted to play USC in the middle of the challenging Big Ten season so they were turned down. ND will play powerhouse Dayton in an exhibition game and they have a really tough ACC schedule for men’s BB. By the way, their record for the past five years is worse than USC. Go figure. Fight on and beat the Niagara Honeymooners in Lacrosse. Dan, Class of 1962

      2. Charlie, you forgot to mention that your pal Charlie Weiss let the grass grow to about 3 inches deep to nullify the Trojans speed advantage. Demonstrably against NCAA regulations, but the fake leprechauns get away with everything and anything. And still they lose as the two USC Heisman winners get the W at the last second! Boom!

  1. KAM: CBS ranks us #18!
    USC
    #18
“This ranking is based on the Trojans returning three of the top five scorers — specifically Rodney Rice, Alijah Arenas and Jacob Cofie — from a team that finished 18-14 and missed the 2026 NCAA Tournament. That core will be joined by a recruiting class highlighted by five-star prospect Christian Collins, four-star prospects Adonis Ratliff and Darius Ratliff, Georgetown transfer KJ Lewis, UConn transfer Eric Reibe, Colgate transfer Jalen Cox, Lindenwood transfer Jadis Jones and South Dakota transfer Isaac Bruns.”

    1. I’d be happy to trade that bb ranking for our final regular season football ranking….

      2. KAM The problem with this ranking is that I doubt our three returning stars are going to want to share the ball with the new players.

DON: Arenas is only still here because his performance last year was such a disaster and the NBA said, “Nyet!”. He is going to want to hog the ball even more this season to audition for the NBA.

  2. wolfman, if the stubborn, prideful SC coaches listened to you, they’d have an actual BBall banner to hang in Gayylen, instead of a few volleyball banners!! you know, UCLA has 20 of those Nattys, wolfman!! impressive eh? not to mention the dozen BBall Nattys!! (Thats 12-0 in BBall Nattys!!)

  6. KAM: If SC wanted more football championships then moving from the Pac-12 to the ‘Big-18’ was a mistake.

DON: Simple math–It’s easier to overcome 11 teams than 17
