USC Saturday Buzz: Camp Beckons . . . Soon

USC should start training camp in about a week. The weird part is that Lincoln Riley has still not announced what day it will begin, as if it is a secret.

Even at the Beach Blanket Bingo on Wednesday, USC officials would not divulge what day camp will begin.

  • USC has hired Sean Brosnan as its cross country and distance coach.

He spent the 2022 season at UCLA, where he was part of an NCAA investigation into possible recruiting violations.

UCLA and the NCAA came to an agreement on the case but Brosnan denied the allegations.

Brosnan’s attorney released a statement: “This statement is to confirm that the agreement announced today between the NCAA and UCLA was made without Mr. Brosnan’s involvement or consent. Mr. Brosnan has cooperated with the NCAA investigation, and we will vigorously defend any allegation that he committed NCAA violations.”

The NCAA stated that, “The agreed-upon violations occurred over several months and include impermissible communications, primarily with parents of student-athletes at other schools who were not in the NCAA Transfer Portal.”

UCLA’s penalties included one year of probation, a $5,000 fine and unspecified recruiting restrictions.

  1. DON: SC has always had great sprinters in its track-and-field program

KAM; But they have lacked long distance runners. Maybe this ex-bruin will change that

      1. UCLA LEGAL DEPARTMENT REPLIES: “It’s fun to enter false pleas and enter into harmful binding contracts on behalf of innocent bystanders.”

DON: As has been said, what difference does it make when no one reads this stuff anyway

  6. Scott, it took less than a minute on Google to discover that Fall practice at USC will begin on Thursday, July 30, 2026 which is almost one month before the first game against San Jose State on August 29. It has been the longstanding tradition to begin Fall practice about one month before the first game. So, instead of complaining about USC not informing you about their plans, just be proactive and do a little research. And, if the new track distance coach can train champions, that is good enough for me. The lack of high caliber distance runners when compared to other top track and field programs has hindered our championship potential where we rely soley on sprinters, hurdlers and a few jumps and throws individuals. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

    1. hey brother, ease up on wolfman, as we all know on weekends he needs a little “me-time” and is usually shacked up all weekend with some nubile Big 10 cheerleaders till Monday morning.

  7. DON: Just read an article about ucla’s new football coach Cheesney, and he says the bruins are in competition for local recruits with SC and doing very well– “We are another option”

KAM: –So the SC-ucla rivalry is back on track with both schools improving their inventory. I preferred this one more than the SC-Notre Dame one

DON: SC-ucla was often for the Rose Bowl, The Game back in the day, but SC-ND had a bigger national feel to it and often it was for a national championship. How I’d love to have them both back

    1. KAM: With the acquisition of LeBron, the 76ers move past the Celtics to 4th best team to be favored to win the NBA title.

DON: Wait until they get former Trojan Bronny!
