Morning Buzz: Lincoln Riley Measures The Standard For USC

Here was a quote from Lincoln Riley yesterday that wasn’t earth-shattering but still telling.

“The standard is championships every year… it’s USC,” Riley said.

What Riley said it’s true. It’s also similar to what he said at his introductory press conference in 2021.

But maybe Riley should spend more time explaining why he hasn’t upheld the standard? What’s he done wrong the past four years? How much is his fault? Does he take any accountability? In the past four years, it’s not really his style to take blame for his wrongdoings.

By the way, what’s his signature accomplishment so far at USC? Destroying the nation’s greatest intersectional rivalry. Congrats to Mr. Muleshoe!

  • Remember last weekend, when I said USC officials refused to confirm when training camp opened? They finally said it will open Friday (July 31). Not July 30 as some around here erroneously insisted.

[Luckily a head football coach needn’t resemble Russell Crowe —Lou Holtz went way out of his way to prove that one]….

  1. HAWR HAWR!! Lil’ Lord Riley can’t get away with the evasive shenanigans other coachers get away with!! not with the wolfman on the beat!! if the Big Peedo had this level of accountability, we wouldn’t be losing a war, paying all-time high gas prices and watching the economy explode with inflation!!

    1. Too many Chiefs of Staff are indicted (Dana Williamson). Go for chief legislative aide. That would involve a new bill reinstating the USC-domer rivalry.

  2. Scott, it is so sad that your only joy in life is finding faults with the USC athletic program or school administration. I’m sure that the thousands of fans who want to see our Trojans start fall practice were concerned that the first day was delayed one day probably due to Big Ten Media Days this week. And, when is the ND media day and start of their fall practice so that you can report on it. Aren’t you part of the rah rah boys who hype ND and their vaunted tradition. By the way in your estimation, who has the tougher schedule this year, USC or the princess school? We traded ND for Ohio State, Michigan, Indiana, Penn State, Oregon and Washington because LR doesn’t like tough competition while ND plays BYU and other lower ranked FBS schools that will lower themselves to play them for the money which ND doesn’t share within a conference. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

      1. I believe that I was correct until they changed it. Don’t they have the prerogative to make changes in their announced schedule? You didn’t even note the July 30 published date when you erroneously stated that there was no starting date. If your fragile ego needs positive reinforcement, YES Scott you are always right and USC is always wrong. So, sad. fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

  3. KAM: After SC’s basketball coach Dandy Andy left town Wolf had to pick on somebody new and that turned out to be Wiley

DON If you are associated with SC in any way don’t make an enemy of Wolf

  4. Imaginary Wiley: I am used to playing championship football. At Oklahoma I took my team to 3 straight semi-final games from 2017-2019 and in 2022 I may have come within a Celeb groin tear of pulling off one for SC
