USC Morning Buzz: QB Earns Praise

USC coach Lincoln Riley praised true freshman Jonas Williams, who is competing for the backup QB spot with Sam Huard.

“He’s pretty mature and his ability to communicate and operate for his age right now and is definitely on the higher end of the true freshman that I can remember bringing in throughout the years,” Riley said.

  • Wide receiver Tanook Hines participated in his first practice on Tuesday.
  • This is undoubtedly the worst team photo in USC history. And I’m very well-acquainted with USC team photos.

Who was the genius who decided to stick all those staff members in the front rows while the actual players — who win and lose games — are relegated waaaaay in the back.

You need to send a search party to find the guys in the back rows.

  1. Good morning Scott. It is good to know that Hines is back at practice working out. I agree that the team photo is not the best for picking out individual players; however, it was neat that the sat the players according to the numbers in order. And, it did show the size of the new building meeting room. Do you have a collection of team photos? Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

  2. KAM: Because of so many football people involved with the team it is pretty impersonal. You might only know guys in your position group

DON: A new SC guy said he was going around shaking each and every player’s hand like it was a big deal

  3. USC decided to take the Team Photo this year just before a Heritage Hall fire drill practice in case of an emergency this is why staff members are at the front they are our most valuable assets and must be able to evacuate this summer when the big earthquake hits… gee I miss Mike Bohn he was so creative this would not have happenned , in his regime, and now we are stuck with a Pie Face Jen Cohen who still believes blondes still have more fun……

  4. KAM: The SC fans are understandably nervous about the upcoming season

DON: I doubt if the players are. They’re filled with a young man’s optimism

  6. KAM: USC head coach Lincoln Riley heavily praised five-star true freshman quarterback Husan Longstreet, highlighting his advanced arm talent, fast grasp of the playbook, and impressive maturity after arriving in 2025.

Physical Traits: Coaches also lauded his natural arm strength and dual-threat playmaking capacity during practices and early game appearance

Quick Learning: Riley noted that Longstreet picked up the complex offensive scheme much faster than a typical freshman due to arriving early and putting in extra work on his own time.

Leadership and Maturity: Riley specifically commended the young quarterback’s poise, communication skills, and ability to manage the huddle and command the group.

DON: Yes it happens every summer.

  7. The USC Trojans were once a legend built on soldiers who fought hard in the trenches, and running backs who ran thru each hole at top speed with confidence to break it all the way. on each and every play.. We were physical and teams knew when they played us at home ,or on the road they were going to get beaten, manipulated, and destroyed.

I look at the team picture today in the new Lincoln Palace, and the entire university should be embarrassed ,but it tells the true story of what USC has now become in football– more chiefs or “cigar store indians” .. or simply more staff than players- who hardly understand what the word “Fight on” really means..

  8. Easy solution, just take all the staffers and have them take a separate group pic. And then put it on a random page in the media guide where it would be hard to find.
